the doc did a blood test and said my white blood cell count was way low. He said that makes him think it's viral. the malaria test should come back today. He also did a test for mono. In addition to the chills I break out in hives every time I sleep, always in different places. He said that makes him think it's mono. So now we play detective and try to figure out what weird tropical disease I have. It's like being in an episode of House.

(PS. thanks for changin' the subject for me )

Curious. Not taking benadryl for the hives are you? I randomly became allergic to benadryl after a trip to Central America... As for the low wbc count I dont know.

Good luck.

I was waiting for somebody to say that

I just got a call from the doc. I came up negative for mono and malaria but he said the malaria will only show up during an outbreak so we can't really rule it out. He said for now to ride it out and see if my body fights whatever-it-is off on it's own. I woke up this morning with hives all over my legs but other than that I feel good. The hives always go away after an hour or so.

Yes, as long as they eventually go away, sounds like you're doing great! Sheesh. At least they're just hives, but still...

Your doc probably already covered this, but if not... stay away from raw foods, especially leafy greens. Low white cell count means that your body won't be able to fight off the typical stuff that lives on such fruits and veggies. That goes for raw meats, in case you're a fan of beef carpaccio or sashimi.
The bugs (bacteria) that live on raw foods are easily killed with a healthy immune system, but not in your case.

Get well soon.

I almost got hypothermia in Alabama then spent the next few days feeling miserable. It was probably that. The hives could easily come from whatever my mom is washing the sheets in (I'm back home until I can move into my apartment monday.) I went to the doctor just to make sure. I've been feeling pretty good for the last few days. I think I'm fine.

On another note, my buddy's got a welder so I'm going Friday to try my hand at motorcycle rack building. What I know about welding wouldn't fill a dixie cup but it seems like a good time to learn. Me and the bike will be convalescing together I guess.

I think this ride report is good and done. I'm looking at doing Alaska next year but I doubt I'll bother doing a ride report for that. If anybody wants to make a run at Prudoe Bay around next May or June lemme know.

thanks for all the support! I hope to be reading YOUR ride report some time soon!
