Why do people think bike riders all like rock'n'roll??

Good stuff Howard. It is excellent riding out in that country. You can tell by the size of the fires that Belly had departed.

Thanks Howard. It's interesting to read other perspectives such as your experience heading south versus ours heading north on the David Carnegie Road a few days apart.

The airstrip in the middle of nowhere near Lake Rason is probably for the Tropicana project. I was going to do a trip out there on the KTM a couple of years ago when it was just a small exploration camp but it didn't happen for various reasons. I'll get into that country east/south east of Laverton sooner or later.

was good to see you at Carnegie

Great RR, thanks for spending the time putting it together.

I've always been curious about welding the bike frame....what precautions do you have to take so you don't fry the bike electrics, a la the way Ewen and Charlie and co did to Claudio's pig on Long Way Round DVD's?

One post - many replies

thanks guys for all the comments & compliments.

Yes you can take your pig out west. Camerons Corner, The bore track, Walker's Crossing. All ideal pig country, except maybe the Simpson. Better leave that one for OziMick.

Yeah, there was no stopping Belly without Fred the firewood Nazi there.

I was slightly disappointed to have missed a fantastic ride to the OCR with Colin, Belly, Fred, and "A" last Year, So I was determined to start to make up for it this time.

When You Get back over this way You would be very welcome here if you get this far west.

I think I may have enjoyed the DCR a little more had I not been feeling so ordinary due to bourbon consumption sat night. Your mate chris should be pretty pleased with himself for getting the 1200 through with only one indiscretion. We could see where plenty of wobbling about had been going on. Oh for a 21" front wheel and 50kg less pork.
Yes the airstrip is at the Tropicana Mine. If you do head out that way, and I strongly recommend it, give me a shout before you do. There's some things I can tell you about.

I can't remember what happened on LWR and I'm not sure what the recommended procedure is, but we just took the obvious precautions.
Disconnect the battery, and put the earth clamp as close to where you are welding as practical.
A - Blaze away until you burn a hole
B - Fill hole
C - Repeat A & B.

Not a GPX file but here is a Google map. It's a bit of a dogs breakfast but you can get the idea.

Awesome guys! Very jealous indeed!

Might be moving over to Perth next year if the mrs gets posted over there to Pearce. Hopefully it'll all happen, cause I'd love to get out and see these areas!
