Western NY Guzzi rally

yeah a little late but never-the-less.

So, being a Triumph guy up until last year (well, I am still a triumph guy, but I have a Guzzi now too), I have been on some rides with Triumph folks, and I have done a bit of m/c camping as well (Nova Scotia) but I have never actually been to a "rally". Sad, I know.

so anyway, the opportunity came up, and seeing as my g/f lives in western NY, how could I not go? It sounded at first like there would be a big group from New England going, so I thought that'd be cool, but it just didn't work out.

I got the Norge all packed up

and hit the Pike to cover some ground west. Turned south at the Taconic Parkway

and stopped for a drink of water and a look around

cruised through the Catskills (sorry no pics I was having too much fun)

and made it to the Microtel in Bath, NY.

In the meantime Michelle was getting ready to head to Bath from Elma.

all in all a very cool time.
the people were super nice, with Joe & Michelle (Joe's Michelle) making everyone feel at home. I met John from Ohio with a silver Norge, and Phil from Ontario with a Quota, and a bunch of other cool folks. We plan on hitting the rally again next year for sure!

has it been a year? where does the time go?
anyway, if it's early June, it must be time to rally in the vineyard!

setting off from Massachusetts Thursday at lunch the weather looked a bit iffy, but promised to get better.

all packed & ready to roll

after some rain near Agawam MA, the sun came out and the roads started steaming.

I called Upstate Mark from the NE Guzzi list. He mentioned earlier that "if anyone was passing by..." so, with the promise of a warm place to kip, I showed up around 8:30. Turns out a bunch of other Guzzista did too.

Mark made us all very welcome though, and even saved some sausages & potato salad. Beers were consumed and lies were told. A good night.

the trip home Sunday was "moist", and I had left my camera in Colt's jeep, so no pics. I started off with some of the people from MA, but not being a group ride kind of guy, I figured it was time to crack on. I worked my way east towards Binghampton where I ran into Larry from Jersey on his BMW R bike. We cracked on for a while at a nice pace, but I needed gas, so we split. I headed north towards Oneonta, and then east over 23. Basically kept heading east to find some new roads through eastern NY and CT. Finally ended up in Hartford, and jumped on route 6 home. Great ride, bike ran flawlessly, but time for a new rear hoop.... just over 10,000 miles on that Metzler and it's shagged.
