I was thinking of maybe upgrading to a floppy drive, since the cassette takes so long to load. I do like my new Anchor Automation Volks 6420 modem though. It makes surfing for porn and D&D games sooo easy, dude.

Nice

If you type POKE 808,234 on your C64 it will disable the Escape key so your friends can't look at your code. (yeah.. somehow I still remember that ).

I first got online in the early 80's with a C64. I had a 75 baud acoustic coupler. I could type faster than it could broadcast

I need a Satellite internet service that offers more than 5mb upload speed and does not restrict my bandwidth usage.

Can you develop a company that can offer me something more at a reasonable price?

I am having BF2 withdrawls...

If I remember right it was kepware and or directsoft that wouldnt run under vista64. I got to keep my computer as part of my severance package so don't really use it for that stuff here at home anymore. Was just courious if they fixed the backwards combatility with older programs with win7.

Also what about the whole xp-vista networking thing? did they fix that too? I find it damn near imposible to share files from my desktop(vista32) to my laptop(xp) occasionally if I mess with it long enough I can make it work until I shut off my laptop. Its almost like I have to reinstall ALL of the network drivers and such on both computers while theyre trying to talk to get it to work. I've installed the M$ fix and the users etc.. but it just don't work worth a damn.

Well, now I have a real issue.

I have a HP/compaq 6710b laptop. I am trying to do a re-install of Windows XP Pro. When I boot up with my disk I get stopped with this statement:
ftdisk.sys corrupted

Then it just tells you to hit a key to reboot and the computer starts up normally. I have heard this could be bad memory modules. I don't know though. All seems to be in working order.

Any ideas?

If you're sure the cd isn't hosed, download memtest and run it. That will tell you if you have memory issues.

There is a slight issue there. This is a laptop from my old company. I am locked out administratively. I have tried numerous workarounds to get past past it to no avail.

So, I cannot install any new programs...

If anyone's interested in the 902 case Hondo has - New Egg has it in today's daily special for $130... that's $20 off + free shipping (shipping is a big saving on a large case.. often $20-$40).

BF2 Rocks.

I played BF 1942, BF 2, and BF2142 for years.

There was a point in BF2 where I was ranked 14th in the world for Black Hawk Helicopter flying (out of the top 500,000 ranked players). That was the point when I realized I had to uninstall BF2 because it was eating faaaaaar too much of my time. I haven't touched it since.

At the Bios Level or the OS level?

If at the OS level - doing a fresh install you won't be locked out.

If at the Bios level, you'll have to remove the CMOS battery and reset the Bios to factory default.

Geek,

It's just OS level but I can't do the re-install because of the "ftdisk.sys" corrupted message.

Off topic, which size Dirtbagz did you use at WF last year?

Get the big dirtbagz.. they are still small. Mine were the big ones.. Rangers?

You can download the memtest on a self booting disk. You put the CD in and boot into mem test no OS access needed.

I will try the memtest then.

Ya man I was a Medal of Honor junkie then BF1942 then transitioned to BF2. I played a bit of BF2042 but didn't get into it that much. I also tried Planetside which I really didn't get into.

back on bags:

What do you think of a combo of the Dirtbagz rack and the Wolfman Expedtion bags? It doesn't really give too much detail on the Wolfman strapping system.

I like the idea of the roll up bag so no worries about gunked up or broken zippers...

Which bags are the expeditions? Woodsman used the combination of dirtbags and a wolfman tail bag. IMHO, he was always screwing with the mess of tie downs, etc. After camping it would take him 5 or 10 minutes to strap it all back on his bike... it would take me less than a minute.

I do use the Wolfman tank bag and love it.

I use two roll up dry bags and a pair of rox straps. They are water proof. Works awesome. I then use compression sacks inside the dry bags if I want to seperate items (like clean laundry from dirty). Earlier this spring I thought "Is there any part of my luggage system I want to upgrade for this riding season" and the answer was "nope. I can't think of a better setup that what I'm using".

...but my riding objectives/style/luggage capacity needs might differ from yours.

Originally I was using a single dry bag on the rear and I can fit it all in a single bag but by using the two bags ( which don't take any more space) it is a lot easier to pack and I have a ton of spare space if I want to take layers off during the day, etc. I tend to put my sleeping stuff in one and then leave the other for "day usage".

Game wise: I play a bit of Team Fortress 2 these days... sometimes I play with Moritz and JustJarrod from ADV.
I'm looking forward to taking some of the bad'er games like Far Cry 2, etc and playing them on this new system. On the old system the frame rates or resolution was so low it was just frustrating.

Jarrod is a big time gamer. I think he plays every game currently out (including many mmos). I used to be that way years ago but don't seem to have as much time as I'd like for it these days as I put riding first

Dirtbagz Ranger it is then. I have been playing around with this saddle bag setup too much, waiting for a deal to pop up in flea market for bagz, what bags will work with what rack etc...

I am dropping the coin to tonight, I need something real soon. The expeditions are the waterproof rollup saddlebags, similar to the Ortleib ones. I thought rollup would be nice to not have the potential zipper issue but it sounds like they hold up well, the dirtbagz that is.

Now I have a couple things to do tonight!

memtest and order me some bags, finally...

Keep in mind the dirtbagz are no where near any kind of water proof or even water resistant. I use dry bags in side mine (or ziplocks/trashbags)... but I love the fact I can cinch 'em down and ride single track and still have fun with 'em s
