McCall, Idaho road condition update

This afternoon I tried to get to Granite Lake and up towards Hazard Lake area off of the Brundage Resort, (Goose Lake Road).
The road towards Granite Lake is snowed closed just south of the Hartley Meadows road on the east side of Brundage Reservoir.

The road to Goose Lake was just plowed opened today by the USFS, but only to the north end of Goose lake.

Grouse C.G. at the south end of Goose Lake is scheduled to be opened tomorrow by the USFS.

The road over No Business Mtn from West Mountain road to White Licks and the Middle Fork of the Weiser is open to US95, and was freshly graded in the last couple of days. ( real loose dirt and rock)
The road south to Cabin Creek from the No Business Road is also supposed to be open.

North of McCall to the Salmon, (as everyone already knows) is open. East of Warren to the South Fork of the Salmon is reportedly open, and possibly as far as Pilot Peak, but I have no further on that area.
I would expect that Elk Summit is and will remain closed for awhile.

I heard that Profile Summit, north of Yellow Pine to Big Creek is still closed as well.

We are still having very heavy rains in the remote areas according to the USFS, so use caution as some roads may have large holes in them.

Lick Creek Summit, east of McCall is still buried in deep snow, and I have not heard of any opening date that way.

That's it so far.

Thanks for the update. I'm keeping my eyes on these as one of my planned rides is over Lick Cr to Yellow Pine and up to Big Cr. I'll just wait a little longer

Yellow Pine

I will be riding to Yellow Pine tomorrow, depending on the weather and how my right shoulder feels. Will be staying at a ranch through Sunday, and should have further info on the road conditions and riding after that.
I'll post whatever info I come back with.
Plans are to take the main road from Warm Lake to Landmark, then north on Johnson Creek road to YP.
It is open, or was reported to be.

More info just came through on a road closure for this summer.

The East Fork South Fork will be closed beginning Monday the 22nd of June and going through to September. The only access through to Yellow Pine will be Johnson Creek Rd.

Lick Creek Summit should also be open by this Monday, but not through to Yellow Pine.

This means access into YP will only come for the Warm Lake Road. FYI

Just came across this: http://www.fs.fed.us/r4/payette/news...9_roadwk.shtml

Figures that the summer I decide to ride this area it's all torn up Oh, well, I can manage a backtrack or two to see the places I want to see. Also curious for those with local knowledge, is there a road that connects from Lick Cr over to Warren?

Based on what? I can't find any info that it's still snowed in on the Slowtel info...

Thanks for all the updates, Crash, they're very helpful.

Today I rode from Cascade to the North Shore Lodge at Warm Lake for lunch. (dang good burgers and cold beer!) I then backtracked to the Clear Creek Road. I then road the East Mountain ATV trail and went up to the old East Mountain Lookout. The trail was in good shape. Hit some snow just north of the lookout in the shaded areas. Got stuck a few times but made it through. There were quite a few trees down on the trail. The conditions are awesome right now. I found the flag we replaced last year at the Lookout is pretty much toast. I think I will bring another up there next week and get it replaced. Rode back down to Clear Creek and back home via Cabarton Road. Great ride and some super green scenary!

Phil, that hill is easy! I was 3/4 up it before I remembered you rolling back down it. Good times! Maybe it easier right now because no one has been tearing ruts into it. The flag was pretty much torn in shreds and faded. The wind must be strong up there all winter.

Iirc...

I think you have to go either from Lick Creek through Yellow Pine and over Elk Summit or the other way through McCall and Burgdorf.

Having Lick Creek Road and the South Fork road closed this summer is going to be a pain. Every flat lander in the world is going to be driving Johnson Creek!! We'll be riding in the area the first week in August and between the road closures and the Harmonica festival...it's gonna be wild!!

Warren to the South Fork.

Somebody up above asked about the road to the South Fork of the Salmon from Warren.

Yes, it's open --- to the South Fork -- but , as pointed out, Elk Creek probably won't open for another month.

Just as a side note. Saw pictures of a CONCRETE MIXER TRUCK that went into the South Fork that way on Tues. or Wed. of last week (the guy that drove it in there either has a REALLY big set or is just plain nuts!) --- he made it to the bottom --- but then ---- he was trying to back down into the place where they wanted the concrete and the road gave way from all the moisture and the weight of the truck.

They took a welding truck in and cut the mixer tank open, shoveled out the concrete, but they still don't know what to do with the truck!! Smart money says they will probably just cut it up where it lays and scrap it.
