Dude, I'd love one of these smaller ones to do tree work with.

That would be ultimate. Probably wouldn't even be able to tell a chipper was behind it, and a one man bucket would probably be a bolt on farkle.

So much cooler than a Ford.

Mercedes makes another unit as badass as the Unimog, it's called the Zetros.
Doesn't use portal axles, comes in a 6x6 version and is longer so would make a nice platform for an expedition camper.

I'm gonna build me a Unimog camper one day I've had a quick drive of an ex NZ army 1700 & I reckon that would be a good base. It'd need a tail lift on the back for a coupla dirtbikes I'd keep it all army colours so I could camp wherever i liked

So how impractical would it be if I traded my Jeep Cherokee for a 404?

Profoundly-- They are glacially slow; a friend of mine bought a Swiss Army 404 about ten years ago, & I drove it home 130 miles up the slab. It took 4 hours.

They also get crummy gas mileage and ONLY seat 2, unless you buy a Doka.

Most strange vehicle i've ever seen, i had one during my military service (18months) and enjoyed it much. It was 1969 or 59 cannot remember exactly model though need to be fixed every week.

Yep, it was something like that but crapy than this
