Their web site says mon-sat. http://theonwardstore.com/store.php

No mention of holidays. Phone number:662-873-6809 that you could try in the morning.

With all the people in the Eagle Lake area right now, I would bet that they would open to feed them - it was packed when I passed it late yesterday afternoon.

Good to meet all of you - I'll need help with all the names except Steve and Dan. After I survived my stress test, I called Ricky and invited him to ride to Onward. That was good for him because he had a mission to take some pictures of some land off Cox Ferry Rd near Flora. We had some really good tamales and headed up to Rolling Fork, over to Satartia, on to Hwy 49, and down to Flora. I'd never been on Cox Ferry Rd before so it was a treat. We headed home by Hwy 22 and I-20.

This was my first ride of any length with Ricky since he got the cruiser - seems odd not seeing him on the old green Trophy. I'm thinking he needs a mini bike next so he will be slower than me - he's still too fast on the big Yama.

Bob (trailblazer) ride

Always a blast with a good group of guys today.

Wouldn't be complete without a flat roadside repair

Back going in maybe 20 minutes.

Not crossing today

255 miles and over 3/4 were gravel.

Headed out for a ride at about 9:30 this morning. Rolled the bike out and it was dead. Got to track down where it's losing power. A battery should last more than two weeks...

While I was charging it these hooligans rode up:

Complete with mobile satellite TV:

Not long after they left, the battery charger had done its thing and I was off, only 3 hours later than planned.

Headed up the West side of the Tombigbee, through Aberdeen and up toward Amory.

Was riding along a road a lot like this:

Only without the houses nearby. Trees right up next to the road...

Then there was a grayish-brown blur from the right and I had enough time to think "DEER!!!!" and slam on the brakes. I learned a few things in the next half second:

1) The ABS on the Tenere make a distinctive chuffing sound on chip-n-seal pavement.
2) If you scream like a little girl inside your helmet, the deer won't hear it.
3) It's better to hit a small deer with a big bike than a big deer with a small bike.

So the bars shimmied, the bike shook, I stayed upright and in my lane and just about crapped my pants. I looked down and saw a fog light out of place so I headed for the nearest wide spot on the shoulder for a damage assessment. Pulled off the road and nearly dropped the bike when the bars wouldn't turn right because the foglight was jammed in the way.

Proof:

Guess the bag got hit too:

So collected my thoughts, put the foglight back and rode on home. My foot is a little sore and the front fender will need to be replaced at some point. All in all, it was a worse day for the deer I'm sure.

Glad you're alright, and the bike too.

Deer strikes are no fun. Looksike you faired pretty good all things considered. My strike back in '09 cost a $1000 to fix my bandit 1250 and I never crashed. I did kill the deer with a Givi sidebag. S10 ABS system is the best it saved me yesterday on a right hand curve on a gravel road that I made straight into the ditch and back up the incline. I'm a believer now because if it had not been for the abs and unified braking system I would have crashed for sure.
