Leaving Victoria/Port Angeles this week with +/- this rte in mind: Forks-Aberdeen-Morton-Yakima-Lewiston-Missoula-Whitefish-Calgary (and later back to Montreal, QC).

Here's my current tentative googlemaps route:

Anyone care to comment or suggest nice(r) options.

Thanks

Since you're planning on Morton, cut up to Hwy 508 and follow the Tilton river to Morton

nice roads

508 is a great little road, I didn't look at your route details but assume you are going over Lolo Pass. That is pretty close to motorcycle heaven. Eat at the Tomato Brothers in Clarkston. Great food. Have a great trip. Going down this weekend to the Gorge with a buddy, tear up the roads around Condon/Fossil.

Here is a nice little detour that won't add miles and will let you skip some traffic. Nice little farms amongst the trees.

East of Lewiston take hwy 3 to Kendrick.
At the east end of Kendrick turn right up the hill toward Southwick and Cavendish. Not sure if it has a numbered sign. maybe hwy 7.

It comes out at Orofino. Cross the bridge to hwy 12.

The rest of 12 has less traffic.

Spiral Hwy

The old Hwy 95 grade in Lewiston, generally known as the Spiral Highway , is well worth the time. If you haven't done it already. Most people go back down and do it again so save a little extra time for this one.

Easy to find when in Lewiston. Simply look North and you will see the Lewiston hill and the new Hwy 95 grade is easy to see. The old highway is just to the left( a mile) of the new one. Down river road will get you there.

Thanks guys, this is great 'local knowledge'. I thought New England had nice rides, but wow, WA rox... The North Cascades & Rte 20 also look awsome, I think I'll be here longer than planned, just looping my way eastward across the state...

If you are in wander mode I would also recommend riding to Palouse Falls, off hwy 12, thru Starbuck. Also Steptoe butte, near Colfax, WA, is a great destination.

There are many loops off 12 that are great riding, especially in the spring.
