Ozz - whatever became of that issue couple years back with your Zumo not working with the jury-rigged wiring on the KLR.
I can tell you that I found out, experiencing the same problem recently, that the Zumo is VERY sensitive to wire impedance. When I spliced the factory Zumo wires with different guage wires to make an alternative connection to hardwired power - it didn't kick on. When I returned to the factory wiring from the Zumo mount to the battery using the original OEM Zumo cradle cable - worked fine. Also, let me know if you've done or care to do your KLR doo - I have all the tools, all you need are the gaskets and the Eagle Mike kit and it can get done The new balancer levers are supposed to be robust but I went ahead and swapped it out, and put in Eagle Mike's torsion spring - just took a little over an hour doing it by myself the first time, the next time will go by swiftly.

What had heppened was that the zumo cradle got busted when some water got to it when the gps unit was not on it. All the wiring was fine. I installed a 12v outlet on the bike and I used factory wiring to conect the 12v plug. I kept the original fuse on the wiring. I did it this way so I could move the cradle to my atv anytime. Garmin replaced the cradle at no cost, didn't have to pay for shipping either! Now I just make sure to remove the cradle at the end of the day so it does not get wet for any reason when the unit is removed. Have not had any problems since. Interesting you mention the doo! My KLR is 08, do you think I should do it anyhow? Somewhere I read that Kawi did improve it on 08's. Cheers! |

Gracias Arte.
