Greg was the first one to crash getting that out of the way.

I failed to get Mikes GPS updated with all the Oregon fixes so we lost him somewhere but got back together later.

Chuck and I came upon this tree across the trail. We could see where Greg drug his bike under it. We had to go over it.

We ran across a cub bear at one point and tried to chase it back out for a picture. He wasn’t complying and mother was probably near so we went on. We camped that night at Tiller. Ate some dehydrated food that wasn’t too bad and called it a day.

The next morning we went to Bear Market for gas and supplies. No gas there and the supplies were limited.
With an unsure gas situation we routed off the trail to get gas and hit Crater Lake. What a beautiful place.

The pinnacles are pretty cool.

Then we were back on the trail. This was a good riding day. Lots of very remote area off road and even railroad grade and powerline roads.
We lost Mike for a while but got back together later.

Wow, excellent ride and report...over a two year period? Thats dedication. Ive never seen anyone drive a van out full of bikes, then shred the van! I have a DR650 and really enjoy it too. Looking forward to more pics!

Hey Ed. This is really cool. I like the idea of taking the van out there and scrapping it. If it had been last year, it would have been perfect, to hook up a ride back home! Excellent report.
I noticed you removed the windshield, did you miss it?

I have talked my wife into dropping me and 2 friends off in the McDermitt area. Allowed 2 1/2 weeks to make our way back to North Texas.

Keep the report coming!!

Noel.

Hi Noel,

I thought McDermitt was some of the most scenic of Nevada. Did you like it so much last year you thought you had to do it again?

I took the windshield off to get the bike in the van. I did not miss it much and I probably won't put it back on.

In Silverlake ran into Buck and Brad Benson. They were cousins on the Trans American Trail. They were on day 25 and pretty bummed they didn’t know about the van . They were going to try to buy a pickup to haul the bikes back to Wisconsin. Looks like they had been having a great time. I am sorry the photo has a pole in the way.

Got to Lakeview late running on absolute fumes. Big mileage long day. The whole crew got reunited and went to the fairgrounds to camp. Good spot by the way. Showers and everything.

Aug 5th I am up at 4:30 am. We eat breakfast and by 7 we are rolling. Chuck has his gps setup “orientation forward”. He starts following the tracks on his gps and is going the wrong way. He heads about 30 miles back the way we come before recognizing an area from the night before. He got in a longer ride this day then the rest of us. Mike with his goofed up gps tracks started out following Chuck the wrong way and then got off track. Lost Mike.

About 30 miles from Lakeview I come up to a water crossing. As I go across I hit a big invisible rock that threw me off course. I was able to save it and motored on across. Everyone else was behind me somewhere so I decide to setup my camera to see what happens when they hit the rock. Along comes Greg.

You can see in the photo he hits it and almost looses it but then recovers and goes through. I wait another hour for Mike and Chuck. Because they went the wrong way they are way behind. So I didn’t get to see them cross. I took a few pictures and left.

Nice job with the photos. First time I've seen them. I saw you with the camera out before I crossed the water. Thought I'd blast right through for a good picture. Came real close to dumping it in the water after hitting that stupid rock!
