Thanks, Margus & Kariina for sharing your recent journey to Saaremaa. I'm glad to see you guys are doing well. It prompted me to return to page 1 and start over. It will take awhile, but I'm looking forward to the inspiration. Your photography continues to amaze me.

Nice to see the two of you out riding once again. Love the photography as always. Thanks for taking the time to continue to share with us.
Hi Francine+David

Just short weekend rides for some time now. We keep an eye on your RR as well - you guys are hyper active in RRing!

I'm sure you have a new route plans already put together and definitely it'll be a treat put both into ride and report.

Just keep an eye on David, he may need some riding skill advice from you from time to time

Cheers! Nothing special really, as I've probably said before I'm no pro.

Take care,
M+K

Hiiumaa island in analog

Here's a map of Estonia where you see the to two bigger islands (hard to confuse with a lot of smaller ones):

(random illustrative pic I found courtesy of BAT)

We actually rode also to Hiiumaa, which is the second largest island of Estonia (after Saaremaa, that's ride-reported few pages back).

Our friend Michal from Poland decided to come and visit Estonia on his R1200GS ADV so we thought couple of days and nights on the nicest island of Estonia would be good place to bring him.

We had some decent riding and good camping with him in Hiiumaa. I'll maybe put few words with some digital p&s pics later of Hiiumaa island ride but ironically it's some film camera pics I have ready first (maybe because I'm not into consumerism that the latest is the greatest ).

All pics shot with Pentax 67 analog camera that's as old as I am.

Into the Baltic sea.

Some BBQ with our friend Michal from Poland.

Tahkuna lighthouse in Hiiumaa island.

Harry on pipe. He's a Chernobyl veteran.

Family pic in front of Kõpu lighthouse - it's considered the second or third oldest lighthouse in the World.

Hiiumaa island in analog infrared pt.2

Hiiumaa island's westernmost point (called Ristna Tip) landscape in infrared.

Bikes in Hiiumaa, Kariina's shirt was black btw, some infrared film magic I guess (well, it's actually an IR film that's missing an anti-halatation layer creating so called "Aura" effect)

Beach in Hiuumaa.

Funky pines in Hiiumaa beach.

Going for a swim in Ristna, Hiiumaa. You see a black tower over the forest in the left, below the branch. That's a cold war era military tower, designed to be used against the enemy (the West) ships but in practice mostly used in taking down anybody from local people who took a risk to cross the Baltic sea into Sweden or Denmark to escape the Soviet Union.

On top of that tower - you still see machinegun/cannon mountings. It was tricky to come up here (see the hatch) with the last ladder missing and if you miss your grip it's some freefall down in the inner tower all the way to bottom. Especially a nice challenge to climb up with a heavy 6x7 SLR film camera on your back.

And the infrared view to the westernmost tip of Hiiumaa island from the cannon tower. It's the same bay you see few pics above

Wellcome back to your thread.
Don't know if you know that we come here very often hoping that something has changed.
If there was a counter for the checks of regular visitors, just imagine.
Enjoy.

It can only be that way.
I know how often I checked for updates during the big trip and guess the most of the followers did the same.
The figures should be huge...

Some Hiiumaa pics

Little tour around Hiiumaa island with our friend Michal from Poland. The usual post-Cold War suspects, forts, hideouts, towers and stuff all over.

The beach and the spoiling inland mobile masts seen over the gulf in the background.

I found tick in our tent and said they mostly hide between the balls - Michal got a little too paranoid about it
