Geez! OK, I will find some time to take nighttime photos this week. It's not easy to find somewhere dark and secluded but simultaneously photo-friendly AND to remember to pack my tripod AND do all of this while commuting home to/from work.

I don't want to disappoint y'all, but cut me some slack.

Here's what it will look like:

A photo of a dark field.

A photo of the field lit by my low beam

A photo of the field lit by my high beam

A photo of the field lit by low beam and Solos (oxymoron)

A photo of the field lit by high beam and Solos (oxy encore)

Summary: there'll be more light with the Solos.

Fritz

I apparently have a very small, very highly focused following...

I'll do some Solo-only shots as well.

Fritz,

I ordered a pair of these (Euro beam) for installation on an electric scooter. The scooter hasn't shipped yet, but I plan on putting them on the forks, much like Motolights (but much lower wattage). I want to leave them on all the time, night and day, both for increased visibility and for better road illumination.

However, I'm starting to wonder if the lack of a cutoff will cause too much glare for oncoming riders. I plan to aim them down a few degrees, putting the beam center firmly on the road. But how bright is the spill? Will it be blinding, or just bright enough to make sure they know I'm there?

Maybe you could get us a few pictures. Something like this perhaps?

A photo of a dark field.

A photo of the field lit by your low beam

A photo of the field lit by your high beam

A photo of the field lit by low beam and Solos

A photo of the field lit by high beam and Solos

And maybe a summary... Something like "There's more light with the Solos."

Here is a little something to hold us over:

The New Vision X Solo LED light. Draws .75 Amps and puts out 800 lumens. Comes in a spot, euro beam and flood pattern and is modular.

There is a guy in the equipment forum testing them out. They look quite promising.

Stolen from an FJ Cruiser Forum: Looks very bright.

Tested with pics (ya vultures!)

Finally!
Tonight I was able to take a rural route home and find some actual "darkness" which is in very short supply in urban Baltimore. I should note that before these pics were taken, on a dirt road near Point of Rocks, Maryland, I dropped the bike at 0mph while parking. Yes, I am an idiot. And, to further confess, despite having a camera and tripod, I opted not to take a pic of my bike sleeping. No damage other than my pride. Anyway, on with the show!

No lights at all:

Solos only: note that I have the lights set to at a spread

Std. low beam only: Note that the regular beam is mostly hitting the near field.

High beam: still more foreground light

Low+LED

High+LED

So that's it. It's all in and working. The LEDs aren't going to be visible from orbit but definitely light up the road at night and improve daytime visibility without running the battery flat.

So, for those who have stuck with me for this: the Solace Solos are a worthwhile light for those of us without much spare wattage or as an additional fill-light for those with existing driving/fog lamps.
