Question performance anamoly query

Have 9K miles on my R1150RT. Was running two up and loaded at 4200 in 6th up a slight grade on straight highway. All of a sudden, revs and speed started to drop. At 3000 rpm, shifted to 5th, and revved the engine a couple of times to about 4500 rpm. Ran up to 4500 in 5th and got back into 6th- end of problem for the rest of the day. WTF? Do I need a canisterectomy, or what?
Thanks,
Hank

I can't quite tell from your post whether there was a power loss or it just did it's thing in overdrive. 6th is overdrive...you really can't expect much acceleration, or even speed-holding on an incline especially on a loaded bike. Did you have any problems once you down-shifted to 5th?

btw, 3000 is waaaay too low, especially in 6th. Peak torque is at 5500RPM.

No, I don't think you need a canisterectomy unless it's rubbing the back tire like it is on mine, or it's completely clogged from the bike being dropped or overfilled several times. The bike ran just fine in all other situations? Probably not a problem.

Power drop-off was not normal for the grade I was on. Felt almost like a temporary fuel starvation. When I down shifted and revved it with the clutch pulled in, it pulled cleanly in 5th, and then was normal in 6th, running about 4200 rpm. Was able to pull normally on any highway grade at 4200 Rpm in 6th. Didn't have any trouble for the next 150 miles home, weird.
Hank.

A. oilheads run way lean.
B. fouls typically last until you clean or replace the plug and/or fix the reason it fouled in the first place.
C. Yer an idjet.

Talking OK You Two

When is Baldy getting back? It's obvious that he is the only one that can get you two to play nice together.

The way I figure we got about another three weeks of you two arguing across the entire Board.

Help Mr. Clean, where are you????

Power loss

It may have been a piece of carbon that has lodged under a valve seat for a short while.
If the problem has gone, don't sweat.

Happens all the time around here! Nothing unusual about that factor, the swine beats the fish all the time!
