I plan on it being a winter project.... Damn it froze last night, winter must be here already... thanks AlGore.
That is one ugly seat and fairing, but I bet they work well!

Keep them on for winter, and remove them for summer, and you have a great bike for the price!

$600. tires, fork seals and had to fix the chain, battery and the obligatory carb cleaning.

I liked the lack of fairing look but i wanted to raise the bars towards me. that meant that all that crap up front had to go so today i ended up with this:

I swapped the clipons side to side to raise the bars, i made my headlight mount out of bone yard items including ktm kickstand, kdx sprocket and fzr mirror stalks. much tidier now! cheeeeeep fun, baby

84 Nighthawk 700 s. Paid $250 to the fellow who bounced it off an expressway dividing wall in Chicago. Set of forks and a fender, remove the twisted crash bars and patch up the lower cases. Little paint and elbow grease and Voila ! Total: bout $500 !

I always wanted to have one of these. I had 850 and I loved it. Congrats on the new bike.

Here's my 1984 Honda Ascot Vt500Ft that I got barn fresh for $500. A good washing, a battery and a carb cleaning and she was good to go. Added an a windshield I had laying around and it makes a nice crummy weather bike. Now I have to decide whether to put a new set of street tires on it or go with something like a Gripster or Distanzia.

Pacific Toast?

http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/n...405923778.html

This just happened this afternoon, so I don't know if this is a victorious deal or a pathetic waste of money, yet.

I don't know if CL links go away, so it is a 1990 Honda Pacific Coast with 40k miles, titled, but last registered in 2006, for $500.

I will add my own pics, soon, and will be posting a lot to seek advice on bringing this puppy back.

That does not look like a good deal. It looks like a good steal. Post picts when you get her.

My first bike and a hell of a deal too! Of course, it didn't run because it sat in a garage for a couple of years. It was some guy's sister's bike that looked like she dropped one time. Very, very minor scratches.

$850 with 1889 miles. Bought it July of this year and now it has a bit over 4400 miles!

Of course, the luggage on there now was after I bought the bike.

Question

Without starting a new thread, I wander how many of these supercheap bikes would be good for a guy with a bad back. I just had two discs removed and don't feel like leaning over the tank all the time, but can't stand traditional cruiser/choppers.

cheep wheelz

picked up over the weekend. kutter fairing with lowers, sissy bar, king/queen seat, luggage rack, hard bags, jardine turn-outs, 31k miles. needs a good scrub and some tires - last registered in 1989!

should be a fun winter project (full disass/clean/refurb).

The Goldwings are super comfortable and handle better than anything that heavy has a right to. You can get decent early ones (GL1000 and GL1100) for $2K and nice ones for under $4k if you look. If you don't mind working on them they can be had for even less. From 1975 (first year) to 1984 (first 1200) the were available as a naked bike. From 1980 on up you could get them set up for touring, full fairings and bags.

Sounds like a Suzuki Bandit with bar risers would suit you fine.
