Indeed. From My MS, AR, OK Trans America Trail Trip this week, Wheel bearing #1 failed 80m miles into Arkansas near Hallsville. ![]() I rode it home and replaced just the one (stupid) ![]() Slabbed it back to where I left off. Wheel Bearing #2 failed and replaced in a hay field in Buttfuck, AR later that day. ![]() I had forgotten about 15 minute-ing Mug on the night ride too. You should really learn the art of a full-blown hissy-fit. I had one last Bearing failure on this trip. ![]() See you guys in two weeks. Don't worry, I'll be ready to ride. ![]()

Good onya Mini--I see you finally stepped up to a Honda...now you'll finally be able to enjoy riding instead of wrenching!
![]() Man, you've got some bad juju with bearings; almost, but not quite as bad as a guy I knew that had bad juju with tires, seemed like he had a flat every couple of weeks on his bike. Remember helping Evan replace all those tubes, Madhouse? At any rate, with all the new bearings ya got on that KTM, surely you won't experience any more bearing failures for some time to come *fingers crossed.* How'd ya like the TAT?

Brian, sure sorry to hear the bearing failures. Especially doing something special like the TAT. Hope your compiling a ride report for us to read. OH YEA!!!!!!!! I had a CL100 Honda just like yours. I learned to wheelie on that thing. Biggest problem was power. Had to really snatch on the front end to get into the balance point. Several times I snatched so hard that I flipped it. One time I was going so fast when it flipped, I landed on my ass. Slid on my ass for about a millisecond before my ankles caught something. My cousin Mike said it looked like I had springs on my ass because it shot off the dirt road so fast. Suddenly, I was up on my feet again trying to run 30+mph and did that for about two steps before being slammed down on my face and slidin down the dirt road. ![]()

That's kinda strange. I was about to change my oil, I checked my chain slack. As I wiggled the chain, my fucking rear wheel shifted around. Damn! I'm glad I noticed that now & not at Pre ANF. My new rear bearing kit will be here this week.
I'm thinking about selling my 03' KTM450 EXC & getting another 300 2-smoke. I can't stop missing that bike.

With wheelies (and not just with wheelies, come to think of it), a soft snatch is preferred to a hard snatch. Just sayin'. Y'all shoulda seen the guy that bought my KE100 wheelying that little turd down the street on his test ride. It was fairly impressive. He had to do a Madhouse-style "hard snatch" to get up to the balance point, no doubt about it, but he got it up there and kept it there for a bit. Which is more than I was ever able to do on that bike. And I must confess, I tried on more than one occasion. I'da shot some video of it, if I had known it was gonna be that kind of a test ride.

Dang, I thought Mini was the exception and not the rule! Are KTMs known for eating wheel bearings? Are the OEM bearings unsealed? Is it water crossings that cause them to fail? I've never replaced a wheel bearing in my life, and I've racked up some miles on various bikes/cars/trucks. Maybe I've just been unusually lucky. Watch what happens now--my wheel bearings will probably fail on the next ride.
