Seven Mountains Campout

While abusing ourselves in Bald Eagle State Forest today, Intrigue and I thought that it would be cool to have an ADV campout in this area.

For those not familiar with Bald Eagle State Forest, it is in the middle of Pennsylvania, and has a large amount of fire roads and legal trails for riding. Rothrock State Forest is right next door, also with lots of fire roads. There are also plenty of paved twisties for those that want to go that way (PA 144 starts just down the road). Your bike must be street legal and registered to use the trail system at Bald Eagle SF.

Hemlock Acres Campground will be hosting us. The normal cost is $17 per tent per night (two allowed per tent). The owner is giving singles a break and only charging $12 per single occupancy.

October 9 - 11, right in the prime of the fall colors.

This is a bring-it-yourself sort of gathering. Alcohol is permitted at the campground, but remember that PA has funny laws about where you can buy beverages.

There are several small towns within a few miles with gas, groceries and restaurants. For those interested, there are two caves in the region, Penn's Cave and Woodward Caverns.

If you want to see where Skyclad grew up, post up and join us.

Such as?

Based on input from Intrigue, and my own preference, we will be going with the second weeknd in October 10/09/09 - 10/11/09. I have a long strech of off days, so I will probably head up Thursday.

I just got off the phone with Seven Mountains Campground. There may be a small problem known as football season. Lots of folks park there campers there for the entire Penn State season.

The owners are very interested in hosting us, and are going to see what they can come up with. Looks like we might be able to get eight tent sites and maby a couple of camper spots.

Looking at the Penn State schedule, the second weekend is a home game. We might have more luck with the first weekend, as they are playing away that weekend. Mike, I know you would prefer the second weekend, but would the first weekend be doable?

I will keep you posted as things develop.

Not sure how you feel about state parks, but Poe Paddy isn't far from there.

Centralia on the way, Railroad Tunnel in Poe Paddy Park, Milmont and Dreese's Covered Bridge and some of the local craft breweries...recommendations? Selin’s Grove Brewing Co., Elk Creek Cafe, Bullfrog Brewery, Old Forge Brewing Company

Well, Centralia is not on the way. It could be easily done in a day, but you would not get in much dirt if you head up there.

I would have to look up the locations of the breweries, but the Railroad Tunnel is a piece of cake.

I just called another campground. They have more space available the second weekend, including a group site they could put us in.

Check out Hemlock Acres

I am waiting for the husband to call me back. More info pending.
