No spark to the plugs
My neighbor has a 88 R100RS. He tried to start it.. nothing.
I went down with a a spare plug .. connected to the spark plug wires. NO SPARK on either side. My guess is the coils. Any Ideas?

Remove the tank, check the coil connections firstly. Check for loose connections etc etc.

Damn! The question is so wide open, it could be just about anything! At this point, with no clues or data, one would start at the battery working his way towards the bean can - and all points in between.
Just as a wild guess, I'd say the bean can cause it's the most expensive piece there. All funning aside, the hall sensor is housed in plastic which deteriourates over time and with heat. So, besides connections, low voltage, and the ICU and it's lack of heat sink paste, the bean can is about all there is. Start at the coil and see if there's voltage there. If yes, pull the plug from the ICU to the bean can and ground the middle connection. The plugs should spark each time it's grounded. If it now sparks, you'll know it's the bean can hall sensor. If still no spark it's gotta be the ICU or coil or connections to those items.

+1. this may not be the best electronic ignition system but at least it's easy to troubleshoot.

We broke the all time record at 104 and for us mossbacks, that's HOT. I lived in Fresno for 5 years, I don't know how. Bought the beemer new there and didn't even have an oil cooler!
