warranty period

poking around for extended warranty info I ran across the following site http://www.wolfbmw.com/2002line.html that says

"All BMW motorcycles are available with anti-lock brakes or have them as standard equipment. All BMW motorcycles are equipped with catalytic converters. Warranty period is three years, unlimited mileage. "

??? interesting I get the 3 years but only 36K miles. must be a promo.

That must be a typo. The unlimited mileage warranty for new US bikes ended on the last day of 1995. I only remember that because I scraped every dime I had to get an R1100RT before the short warranty went into effect.

3 year-36000 miles

freak

Jon's right. BMWNA found themselves doing warranty work on 2.5 year old bikes with 60,000 miles on 'em. Their warranty index (warranty $ paid per VIN) skyrocketed, hence the return to 36K miles

Boy, those were the good 'ol days. I remember musing out loud to my dealer that the tank badges on my '88 K75S looked a little scraggly, and wham! New ones appeared on my bike almost immediately, thanks to "warranty."

Those were also the days when the dealer could finagle a credit for a replacement BMW shock (the Sachs units blew and spewed oil quite frequently back then) toward an aftermarket unit of your choice. Of course, back then it was only $395 for a new Fox shock.

Times were tough. I walked uphill to school BOTH WAYS in the snow and had to listen to MTV in mono.

yea, but did you walk BAREFOOT in that July snow?

My wife's grandma is always telling me tales of how she'd get up at four in the morning, work her little crops, then hear the fishing boats' whistles as they arrived, walk to the harbor, buy some fish and walk back with it, tend the cattle and fix lunch for her husband. How she'd care for her potatoes in pitch-black darkness and then hear a whistle from 12 miles away, let alone get there and back in time for lunch, is always lost on me. Evolution must be working backwards on us.

SFIS wonders...

the link says it's for the 2002 line. must be the good ole days up in Canada.

maybe BMWNA should change it's name to BMWUSA and split out our northern neighbors. :lol1

Talking Warranty

That's right folks. Canucks still get 3 yr unlimited k's on all new Beemers. Something to do with Yanks putting beaucoup mileage on a bike in 2 yrs and them demanding a new engine, etc because it is worn out or broken. Imagine that!

just because we have some great roads and think 36k to 40K per year is average mileage we're the best beta testers they have!!

Yep, and since November 1st last year, all new motorcycles in the UK get the 24-month, unlimited mileage warranty, plus there's 24-month unlimited cover on parts also.
