Gridlock traffic in OZ mike ? I didn't think you blokes even knew what that was
btw, I visited Sydney, Ayres Rock, Kings Canyon, Alice, and Hamilton Island.

Both our fans have seized. Old mates actually boiled over while at idle.
Mine showed OIL light (go figure) while in gridlock traffic with ambient temp at ~18c.
My bike has seen some dust, Steve's not.
The fan on the previous F's (single cylinder model) didn't hold up well either. Three of us bought new F's for an AK trip all 3 ate fans within the first 10,000 miles some before 5,000.

I would check your radiator really closely for obstructions and mud. Keeping the rad super clean will help keep the fan from running. This is probably nothing you don't already know.

It's very hard to tell if the Ohlins is bottoming. If it is, it's not hitting hard. The valving on the stock shock (and forks) have no progression and bottom easily if the pace is picked up. The Bitubo/Ohlins valving can definitely be felt and bottoming is kept to a minimum. I don't have the Ohlins shock near me, but I can check the spring rate when I get home.


As to the more severe bending w/ the Ohlins, the shock mount tab was damaged and not noticed. I rode a pretty feisty 400+ miles that day and the first photo in this thread is what I found. After installing new spacers for the Ohlins, I did a nice 175 mile ride that was at a fair pace and noted another bent bolt. That is the story of the bent bolts w/ the Ohlins. Only two rides to speak of. I have to order new spacers every time the shock bolt bends. I have run the stock shock in between while waiting for the new spacers.

I recently installed the Bitubo setup in the forks and it works great.
Now I need a rear shock but am waiting to see how this works out
before I spring for one.

The bike has been sitting in the shop for three weeks. To my knowledge it hasn't been touched.
The dealer is waiting for direction from BMW HQ.
I have dealt w/ four people @ BMWNA so far. By a roundabout way, I received an e-mail address for a higher up (for lack of a better term) and have received the quickest response from him. It seems that my dealer, or possibly the folks @ BMWNA weren't providing adequate photos for the engineering department to examine. I went ahead and supplied what I have, and was thanked more than once.
My photo documentation may just save my ass.
As of yesterday, the case had fallen into the cracks somewhere. I don't know who dropped the ball, but it is annoying. The 800 is my only personal vehicle at this time. I do have a huge work vehicle and my wife's car, so it's not quite as bad as it sounds. I will be mailing off my second payment made while the 800 is incarcerated. It's hard to be patient right now.
I will update here when I know more.

You know if this goes on much longer, I would look into the lemon law rules here in CA. They are actually pretty good for the consumer. If the bike has been in more than 3x for the same issue or spent more that some fairly short time in the shop for the same issue and 3weeks might be getting there just on this last visit they may have to refund your money or replace the bike.

Very few things will get a slow dealer off thier posterior faster than the beginnings of a lemon law zing. Do it. They should have provided a loaner for you at the very least.
