That just seems like a really over-complicated way to mount a shock...

Is that fastner your tightning grade 8.8, 10.9, or 12? Different torque spec for each. Is it stainless for appearence? Very easy to strip! Some fasteners are even au these days, very light, totally different feel and specs.

Either way, modern fasteners are JUST strong enough to do their job. Slightly weaker and they will break, slightly stronger and they add excess weight and the bike won't sell.

Makes working in your own garage a pAin, but rewarding all the same.

Good luck, love the way the uly's look, hope to ride one some day :)

Just a minor disagreement here:

The buyer can only buy what is being produced.

IMHO, manufacturing is done within a set of tolerances. Build it as inexpensively as possible so it holds up long enough that the consumer will decide to buy another one. Along the way, some stuff will break. As long as the manufacturer can make a profit and the consumer does not have to spend a lot of time/ money to fix it everybody is happy.

When you are talking about cars and motorcycles, a high level of passion for a product allows an owner to ignore certain foibles. Many of the issues that we deal with in motorcycles (or cars) would never be accepted by a dispassionate owner.

KTM and KLR are forces to recon with in this market. The KTM is a briliant performer, expensive, and not so reliable.

The KLR is slow, a little more reliable, and cheaper then snot.

Everyone else is between these bikes.

What you would like is going to be expensive and slow, but very very reliable. I'm with you, I would love that bike, but would still likely buy what I have because performance makes me smile, even If I frown when shit breaks.

News Flash!!! Ralle Moto is working on a simple fix for the shock Bolt using linked spacers. They picked up my F800GS today to work the solution. Let me know if you guys are interested and we'll send some out to David Petersen of Best Rest Products.
