I think that was a stroke of luck. If a certain photo hadn't been found with the initial bent bolt and stock shock, I would have been out of luck.

Good luck and best wishes, let me know if I can help.
I wish I could have done a more equal comparison after the new frame, but I can't. I installed the RM brace. Call me a coward.
I just pulled my bolt, and it is totally straight. Not even a hint of wobble. I believe there are about 1500-1800 miles on the bike since the repair. I have not been timid in my riding.
So far so good from a structural point of view.

Just checked the bottom bolt. No problem.

If you guys are having these problems then whats in this bike. ? It has a fancy Bitobo shock and different forks but unless the shock mount is reinforced it would be "mothered"

I don't have an answer for you.
But I wonder if the rider actually owns the bike.
I guess if I hadn't already laid out so much money and time for this bike, I really wouldn't care.

I am beginning to think the Ohlin's shock really aggravates this problem.

I wonder if the shock bushing touch each other. I seem to remember that they didn't on my late '70s Huskys.

I took the bike to the dealer today. They are going to submit a warranty claim. Since there is an Ohlins shock, they are not sure whether it will be covered.

They opened up a demo bike to compare with mine. Both shock mounts are noticably bent. Not conclusive if the frame is bent or not. The right side spacer of the Ohlins shock is also cracked radially at the point where the diameters change...enough so that a straight bolt will not go through the spacer.

He's either got a lump in his pants, or in his wallet.

Add me to the list

I've got about 20,000 miles on mine. The last 12,000 or so has been on roads ranging from smooth freeway in the PacNW to rutted washboards in Guatemala. The load in the saddlebags is probably 80 to 100 lbs. I had a look today while I was checking my subframe bolts and found this:

It's not real bad yet, but it's on its way.

I'm going to see if I can find a new, stronger bolt on Monday, but regardless, I'm fixin' to abuse the bike in Baja for a couple of weeks. Let's see how it all turns out. I'll report back

Um, I've got a 2010 F800gs on order and for 15k dollars; this is not something I should have to be worrying about.

I spent four hours reading this entire thread and at first I was not too concerned, but now there are more and more people that are finding bent bolts.

I'll definitely do the washer and re-torque precaution, but I do not like the looks of this at all. I hope I made the right choice with this bike.

God Bless,
David

I've got less than 9,000 miles on my bike, but sometimes ride like this:

accidently of course. Stock rear shock.

Today I took a look and I think maybe there might be a very slight bend inmy upper bolt.

I did not take the bolt out because I didn't have a torque wrench, however I bought a torque wrench and will take it out tomorrow and have a look.

The left edge of the shock is about 1 mm above the mount eye thing.

Nothing too obvious, I am still not sure if the bolt is bent but I will know tomorrow.
My camera was not charged so no pictures.

For all you guys replacing the stock shock beware that the stock 72mm span shock mount design is stressed even more by the spherical bearings (floating) on the Ohlins and Hyperpro shocks. The stock BMW shock has a needle bearing in an extended non floating shock mount. So if you upgrade the rear shock I strongly recommend a brace or another mounting design as posted by others.
