Adventure 950 Side Stand Removal
Just to let every one out there know something I just found out the hard way. As you may or may not already know the side stand is bolted to the case and not the frame.....bad design. I can speak from experience on this one.
I went on a ride and a rock must of hit my side stand mounting bracket so hard that beneath the rear female thread, I got a hair line fracture in my case. Luckily, it was at the end of my ride. Anyways, I parked my bike that night in my garage and the next morning all the oil was on the ground. Good news my oil light never came on and since I was riding I lost very little oil......(it all ended up on the bottom of my garage floor!) So NO engine damage!!!!!! Expensive fix. So now I only have my center stand. Rumor has it that KTM ships out two cases a month because of this issue.

welcome to the "cracked-case, leaking-oil" party and I take it that you have still not noticed the many instances Or the cure that the inmates have developed for this design flaw.

As far as I know the cure is to remove the side stand from the bike and put on an after market side stand that bolts to the frame, or a skid plate that could protect the OEM side stand better, but then again you would already know that. As far as other "cures"......no I'm not aware of any. |

Best option. There's a few different versions around. There's also people who have their cracked case welded up.

Thanks, I find that one really interesting. There is a shop where I live that has one developed or is close to having it developed and Ive seen the prototype and its a lot simpler...Ill see if they have it figured out and send you the link. Its from a shop called Trail Tricks: http://trailtricks.com/
