Nothing to do with stealing. Google lets you import/export anything you have in any format. apple wrings every penny they can from their customers.
2years ago apple had over 60% of the smartphone market and blackberry was a contender with bbs. Then android came out and apple is down to 22% and blackberry 9%, android at 59%. There must be a reason for that. You cant tell me 59% of the world is computer nerds

Steve I have a basic droid phone an LG Optimus Q and my service is thru Straight Talk...@ 45/month for unlimited data and phone time...camera is only 3 mp but its decent enough to get the job done for tag games..posting from the road etc...I have Tapatalk2 for use with forums like this one and an app that automatically sends each pic you take directly to Photobucket if you have an acct there...which I do....The only downside is battery life on mine sucks...4 hrs and its toasted... The phone itself was $179...but no contracts and unlimited data as I mentioned...for 45 bucks/mo...pretty cheap comparitively speaking

Apple is a bit over the top on their proprietary nature....

I still hold that a dedicated GPS cannot be compromised long term. Chris, your experience is very broad, but your preference is severely limited....yes it does it for you, completely. Thats a narrow fit for everyone else, meaning, wrapped up in your (because it works well for you) justified aggrandisement of the smartphone as GPS is a desire to make it work for others....least it seems like that . I'm not hatin', I'm appreciatin'.

Separating function to a dedicated GPS makes you resilient to single point of failure affecting all your stuff, allows you to have your GPS GPSing while your phone isnt. The phone with the GPS on sucks power even with 12v source, they absolutely cook in the sun, and 12v power sources arent tough, they eat cables on long term use....where GPS like the 60 run off batteries for days, and whose cables stand up to use better. But when you must go battery, its no biggie.

Chris, you roll with correcting failures and adapt to the programming challenges faster than almost anyone I've seen, its just not that easy for everyone else. Dedicated GPS is more realistic. I wouldnt want my rifle, radio, compass, blue force tracker and all rolled up into a single weapon system...lose one, lose it all...

very sound discussion Bill...indeed if you look at all the serious LD IBA riders they have multiple gps systems that run simultaneously... each doing a different function. If something fails they have sufficient backup systems to keep them in the GPS game...

bill, we were arguing iphone to android. doc says you need to be a computer nerd to be able to use a smartphone. while i am more computer literate than others i think if androd has such a dominating lead on iphone that i think anyone can use it.i even think doc could use one if he tried. the users that i talk to that swear iphone is better have never had an android.

i know you dont like every thing rolled up in one. i guess that is why you carry 2 stand alone gps units, and android smartphonewith gps, and a blackberry when out riding in the big scary pine barrens.

on another note. i dont have the milage you guys have but my ride did turn 100 today

Ahhhhh.....you are piling on the miles brother.

All noted on your Droid discussion...have looked closely at the IPhone...not into being pigeon holed by the steel mailed fist of Apple and the way they lock you in to THEIR stuff.

In other news....mine is fixed, no more leaks. They replaced all the seals in the diff...so whatever was leaking, isn't anymore.

Yea, Liz was cool. I do what I can.

I just came back from Seven Mountains Conservation corp. I tried out their endurcross school. It was a blast and I honed some skills over various obstacles. And then afterwords, we rode the mountains.t
