Nice race. Gotta love those Honda MotoGP bikes. Glad to see they still have decent paint jobs:

registration question...

Just got the registration in the mail for one of my bikes. No new sticker for the license plate. Are they not sending these anymore? Do we have to go to DMV just to get an up-to-date sticker? Yes, I know we don't have to get inspections anymore, but doesn't the registration date have to be correct on the plate?

I got a ticket last year for having an expired registration sticker, even after they were no longer required. Had I just peeled the damn thing off, I wouldn't have been stopped.

Finally got my bike titled and plated in Jersey...$!50 bucks later.

WAIT, you got a ticket in NJ for a no longer used registration sticker? Is that why you were pulled over?

Tire advice

I need help and advice on new tires for my 2005 F650GS, it's down in the garage with a flat rear, both tires are old and worn and need replaced. Any recommendation on tires? It's been mostly pavement so far but I have been trying to play in the dirt and gravel recently, so something that's not a total disaster there would be good.

I've never tried to change a motorcycle tire, I tend to be paralyzed by indecision and fear of failure when faced with something like this I haven't done before. If I can get the wheel off, any recommendations where to take it, I'm in the Berkeley Heights/Summit area? I want to be able to do this stuff, but there's a huge learning curve coming in to it cold.

Thanks for any help and advice.

if you are a 80/20 rider, i like the anakee 2. i have a set mounted up on my f650gs. great for road, gravel, shallow sand, and dry dirt. expect issues in mud.

as far as changing the tires yourself - it is pretty trivial to do - it just takes a little patience and practice. with the 650gs you have two options: spoked or alloy rims.

if you have spoked rims you'll use tubes. buy a valve stem snake and a tool that removes the schrader valve (valve core tool). they make the job much easier. my f650 has spoked rims so it uses tubes.

if you have alloy rims there are no tubes. one of the biggest potential issue will be finding a compressor with enough PSI behind it to set the bead on the alloy rims (i ran into this issue on another f650gs). might have been tire specific as well.

either way don't forget to use lubricant when removing and mounting the tires - helps the rubber slip over the rim.

there are lots of videos on youtube demonstrating how to change a tire - there's a particularly good one involving an f800gs - which is how i learned - even breaking the bead with the center stand worked like a charm. practicing this at home makes doing it in the field much easier.
