Well, there is also the minimalistic efficiency of an air/oil cooled engine that is transverse, allowing good flow of air around the cylinders and lowering the center of gravity decently for such a big bike. And the abundant amount of low-end torque.

I find that without lots of baggage on the big yellow pig, it does handle pretty nicely in the twisties. And when you low-side, it doesn't fall over completely, making picking it up easier!

And you don't have to oil or adjust the chain!

And you don't have to change the oil for the 1st 30,000 miles. While it breaks in the piston rings, it burns about a quart of oil every 1,000 miles. After 5,000 miles, you have essentially changed the oil! Neat, huh?

Of course, for the majority of GS owners, the abilitity to farklerize the bike is irrisistable:

STBNE is coming back to NJ/NYC!

First week in april i plan to drive up to NYC and environs to visit family...friends and pick up a 1979 vintage Yamaha XS1100...being stored in W. Hempstead LI NY...so I will be trailering it back but might like to try a trailer grab of a tag just for fun..not that it has to count...dont want to re-start a trailergate...
Here she is resurrected from a louisiana swamp hence her name SwampThing...the person who is selling me this bike is a genius...he totally restored this basket case to a turnkey classic...been living in the N.E. for 8 or 9 yrs now...time to bring her back down south...As sshe currently sits...

I guess its ok Its on the map as west side ave. That runs along side the Energy plant then across the RR tracks and down the road there is a dump site. The Jersey City PD shooting range is there but thats is fenced off.
Its been about 3 years since Ive been in there. The Dump site has grown and is now higher than the turn pike.

This looks interesting

It is interesting....I ride past there all the time...just a peek and then onto other things. Need to ride the WR instead

Made me think of some powerline trail in Morris County for some reason.

Powerlines you say

Here google pic must be old. Right now the towers and lines are bring installed there are regular roads built along the powerlines with wood planking and bridges to get equipment and tractor trailers up there. All illegal right now Patroled by a califorina security company and local PD. From what I see a few years from now these roads will be left and rideable.
This is RedPowers stomping grounds
