Intiminators - Great Mod for the F658 twin !!
My only complaint with the F650GS twin has been the soft suspension. Recently, I heard about a new product by Ricor called "Intiminators". The V-Strom guys had good reviews. I had installed a similar product in my DR650 call cartridge emulators by Race Tech, and they worked great.
This weekend, I installed the Intiminators in my 2009 F650GS Twin. The improvement is absolutely amazing!! It made so much difference that I'm thinking about taking off the Tourances that I just installed and reinstalling TKC's again. I ran TKC's when the bike was new but took them off after two rides. I kept bottoming out the the front suspension on small hits. I was quite dissapointed in the F650 off road, and was contemplating trading it in for an F800. But not anymore. Yesterday I was riding wheelies over water bars and going places that I had never dared to go on this machine until now. It's like a different bike. The front doesn't sag like it did before and there in much less front-end dive when braking hard. Even if you don't do any offroad, you will still benefit greatly from this mod. The bike is more controllable on braking and soaks up the nasty bumps and potholes. Where the Intiminators really make a difference is on the hard hits at over 30 mph - potholes, curbs, bad washboard, etc. I came across some really bad washboard bumps on a dirt road yesterday, and at 40 mph I was expecting a violent reaction but I was amazed! It was like they were not there. The bike just "floated" over them. My DR650 with Race Tech emulators is not this smooth. The problem with the emulators is that the stiffer you set them (valve spring preload), the harsher they feel on the sharp hits. There's no trade off with the Intiminators. The damping force is progressive - soft on small hits yet amazingly effective on the big bumps. I've got a set to put in my DR650 too. Can't wait to try them out! Although Ricor does not yet show that this product is available for the F650 twin, they do have the right size available. Just tell them what you are looking for. http://store.ricorshocks.com/SearchResults.asp?Cat=47

THANKS!Seems like a very easy modification; my bike is coming up on a year old.... maybe a good time to change the fork oil as well. (ADDED: Reading the other threads I see that swapping to 5 wt. fork oil is recommended) Is there any maintanence required longer term on the Intiminators? Ok so i put them in --pretty easy, used 530ml 5 wt oil ---the 1/2 inch additional preload brings ride height up close (for me,220#) to where it should be short ride down dirt road and over some man holes says the do indeed help, would guess 75 % of riders would be happy here but i think i'm goona try to get better good bang for the buck thou

An Inmate in the DR750/800 thread has installed these on the DRBig and rates the product highly.

May be old news and you already know but the "advrider" coupoun code was extended to 6/2010 for 30% off. Sorry for the long response. Too many forums to check and even if I post on this one I do not get notified there is another post on a thread that I may have previously posted on.Hal@Ricor |
