There's your problem-- a V10.

Try your comparison with an engine that's actually made and well-regarded for towing:

Seriously-- your's isn't nearly a fair comparison, at least as far as power goes.

Joined the water cooled p-car club Wednesday...

Picked up a 2004 C2 Coupe in Polar Silver Metallic. Pristine interior, clean exterior, 55K miles, no leaks, no accident/paintwork, zero current issues, and a clean inspection. I also liked that this car has been a Colorado car since new and fully dealer mantained.

Minimal option car; just Litronics, heated/power seats, 18" Carerra sport wheels, and PSM. Completely stock with no modifications or alterations other than window tint. I love to modify my cars/bikes/trucks, but prefer to start with a clean slate.

Loving the Polar Silver Metallic, but it is very difficult to photograph with the same color balance as it appears to the eye. In fact the 996 in general is kind of hard to photograph well... Again, more flattering (to my eye) in person than captured in images, unlike for example the 993 which is a gorgeous slut for the camera and never seems to take a bad picture!

Couple of iPhone shots from earlier today.

Which I mentioned.

I've pulled a load against my buddies HEAVILY modified 2nd gen dodge and the V10 constantly is about 15mph ish slower up the passes. (Of course if the V10 had a turbo too it would pull better. Everyone thinks "diesel" it the difference when the reality is that "forced induction" is the difference. A NA diesel SUCKS in pulling up mountain passes too)

But that is only such a small part of the issue. I would MUCH rather have the stability and control that the Cayenne has over the Dodge.

For loads over the Tow rating of the Cayenne, obviously the Dodge is going to win and the newer models are probably better. Just pointing out that "engineering" prevails over just "making it bigger"

Welcome to the club! I love mine and drive it every day. The only modification I've made to date is replacing the CD holder with a storage bin. Recommended.

I recently checked out a silver C2 and agree that it's a more handsome car in the flesh. I still prefer the 997 but for the price a used 996 is a bargain.

I also like the looks of the 997 more than the 996, particularly the interior. Rock bottom 997 prices are in the low 30's, and those are high mileage cars. Typically over $40K for clean mid-mileage 2005's. Big jump from the best deals on clean 02-04 996's.

IMHO, clean '02-'04 C2's are the sweet spot in 911's for price, performance, reliability, minimal depreciation, and still a damn sexy looking car.

Let me add "features" to this: 3.6L engine, cupholders, glovebox...

But they still look like a bar of soap to me...

Love my Cayman R, especially the rear 3/4 view and eyeing a nice 993 or 964 (RS America!)...almost bought a used 997.1 GT3 instead but love how I can take my CR closer to the limit with complete control.

Maybe down the road would love a turbo-diesel Panamera but happy to have finally become a P-car owner.

I love the Cayman R, one of the best feeling cars I have ever driven. One of the few cars I would consider selling my 993 for.

When we lived in Germany I spent a couple years looking for my dream car...a 993 RS. Found several since ~ 1/2 of the entire production run stayed there, but too spendy for my wallet. Even without the inflated € to $ (actually deflated $ truth be told) they were going for more than a used 997 turbo.

Saw one for sale here in the US recently..."call for price"...means too much for me, at least for now:
http://sloancars.com/3147/1995-993-c...k-30900-miles/. I actually prefer one without the Club Sport wing but dayum....

Now that the 981 Cayman's been released you should see a few more 987R's coming onto the market...probably the best time to buy one. I'd love to pick up a 987 Boxster Spyder too...exceptionslly rare one at my local dealer right now...but SWMBO says I can't cash in my 401K!
