They can become problematic , but have seen them go over 200k miles without any issues .

I lucked into an opportunity to drive the new Cayman S w/ PDK yesterday. As nice as the car is, and it's a huge improvement over the previous generation - as subsequent generations are supposed to be - it's simply not a 911. The motor has great power, but climbing out of it and into my '10 997 convinced me that I still own the right car.

The one think I do like about the updated PDK is the way it 'blips' the throttle while slowing when in Sport mode.

Damned nice looking car as well.

I agree with you completely. A Cayman is not a 911.

It is better. Much, much better.

The new 7speed manual in the 991 blips the throttle for ya when downshifting.

Not surprising your 9A1 motor'd 997 was nicer and felt like the better car over a Cayman S.

Some nice cars in this thread.

I'm surprised by the high mileage tales though. I work as an engine re-builder and I have the luxury of being the only one in my workplace that can build up the porker engines (and the other wonderful awkward ones like range rover v8's and old odd things).

Common issues with the flat 6's and they are ALL afflicted is nikasil failure on at least one bore and always always broken exhaust studs and the cam sensor bolts snap off as well.

In very, very rare circumstances the ring locating pin on the 2nd compression ring can work its way out, rub through the nikasil then it fails.

Maybe this is a UK everything rusts here and no one actually maintains their vehicles issue.

Funny thing: I put a Remus exhaust on my Smart last Friday and Saturday I noticed it was blipping on downshift with the paddles. The OEM exhaust was so quiet I never noticed it.

So what does a carbon fiber Porsche body go for?

Bet you could buy a lot of gas for the cost of the body.

Singer is a neat idea of building a classic 911 using the latest in materials and components...

People with money drive innovation, restore old vehicles and are integral to the motorhead hobby----it's good there are people out there doing this...plus there is no such thing as an inexpensive Porsche.

It's not what the "marque" is about. They've always represented the finest in engineering and performance...beautiful machines.

Here's a pic from Singers web-site...
