Bike stalls on shift from neutral to first/second

This happened twice so far, first time it was a bit low on fuel - so I attributed it to that. It runs/starts in neutral but stalls as soon as the gear is shifted. For now I just parked it in the garage (she's at a quarter tank) she's doing the same thing as before. So I just pushed it into the garage for the meantime... I'm drinking beers anyhow. Any ideas? Thanks inmates.

Sounds like possibly a sidestand switch? Bike thinks the stand is down?

Sounds plausible, but kickstand was definitely up. I'll check the switch for continuity when I sober up tomorrow, cheers.
