That looks really nice. I'd be worried about rust under the primer, though, if it's left unpainted for too long.

What do the patches look like on the inside of the quarters?

I heard about it, through a guy that actually is active in racing those types of bikes.
I met him, the same day I picked up the bikes, at an R/C flying field.
He saw the bikes, found me, and struck up a conversation, about his experiences.
Pretty interesting.
I wound up giving the silver one to a friend of mine.
He wants to cafe racer it...

The steel work in the main shell is now finished. I cut all the steel from a 4'x8' sheet and slowly formed it into the correct panels. I don't like replacement panels from vendors and prefer to do my own. This way all joints and spotwelds are kept. Once the panels were in, everything was slowly formed back to original shape. I don't like a lot of fill. A dent puller and hammer was used for about thirty hours. Everything is now absolutely perfect. All trim was fitted to make sure. A small amount to fill was used to basically take out the deep scratches.

After that the shell was sprayed in liquid polyester and the car longboarded. This is to make sure it is absolutely laser straight. I mean perfectly straight. All factory imperfection are removed along with any deep scratches. The shell was then sprayed with an etch where there was bare metal. It was then sprayed in three coats of primer and will remain this way until painted in the fall.

The bottom side of the car was sandblasted and any imperfections addressed. It was then etched, primed, and then painted. The photo may look a little orange, but that's because of the artificial light. It's actually a very striking coral colour.

So far over 200 hours in the shell alone. And of course I have yet to touch the doors, fenders, hood, or trunk.

Sigh...........
I love resto threads........
Very cool to see one brought back to life, with that much time and care put into it.
I can't wait to see how it progresses.

Smoothing the welds on the inside of the panels elevates that from "really nice" to "freaking awesome." The only way that would have been more work is if you had hammer welded it.

That's going to be an awesome car when it's done.

This seems beyond a mere resto. There must be another word for the work you've done.

Very nice work. As one who has done some body work, that is the work of a master, Creating your own panels, rather than buying them...... That brings back memories of how that work was done many years ago, and is still done by very few craftsmen. Like the people who do the body work on old Bugatti's and the like, as exhibited at Pebble Beach.

Teranfon,

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE don't be a stranger. I so love to see this kind of work. I know it's very labor intensive and time consuming so we can't see updates every day, but it is so cool to see the steps (as someone w/o the skills)

That car is just awesome.

Teranfon's build should have its own thread. That car, and build, is fantastic.

This just in............

Picked up this today. Was in a barn with a bale of hay up against it and a piece of garden hose hung off the bars.

It came with a hoard of parts AND two running R90/6's, an R65LS and a 1971 R60/5.
Didn't have time to take pics of the others. Maybe tomorrow.

I'm going to be busy this year.
