Yea, that's what I thought 'till I got there.

We just rode more than 500 mi, again, we're tired & hungry, it's raining, it's late and damn those things must be blood sucking hummingbirds they couldn't possibly be mosquitos.

Yea, you'll be in rooms more than you think.
But at least there are two of you to share the cost.

Damn, I wish I was packing to go with you.

T minus 2 days and counting

Odds and Ends

Today was an Easter egg hunt. I’m about 90% packed but there are items roaming the house that I’m likely to need at some point in the next three weeks.

Where is my Deet?
Where is my head net?

Where are my SD cards?
Paracord?

Eh, hygiene bag?

Clothes for day one. Check
Where is my wallet…oh crap…
Oooo, Passport! Yes.
Maps? (merely for reference, there are really only two ways to get there and we’ll try both. One up and the other one back)

The number and range of importance of things to forget is almost endless. For instance, if I forgot my passport, the ride turns into one long lonely 4 corners of the USA ride. Forget the deet and I’m a juicy morsel for the flying critters. Really only the passport could I not pick up another one during the ride.

Dyvking came by today for some last minute stragedizing.

Also to view the swag. Yes, we have swag. There a whole backstory to the deal but let’s just say …eh, we have swag.

THANKS MIKE!

Dyvking’s bike in approximate full battle dress.

Somebody likes red.

GRN stirckers. The next big thing.

Treadless was right. The odd couple. I can hear the theme song now.

More to come. Pretty soon we actually ride these bikes. No really. We are going to leave town. And everything.

Friday night packing so no posting about the trip tomorrow.

Checking your calendar, aren't you?

Treadless to customer:
"So how about I get this to you mid-September?"

"Yes, Yes, I know I said next week, but something has come up"

We're leaving from my house at 0600. You know, incase you want to swing by with your tent and bag (still packed from Westfest) and have a go.
BTW Treadles is the man responsible for the cool T's.
Mucho thanksias.

It looks like you are prepared but realize it's going to be cold here. 99% of the people we talked to are heading south and suggested for us to do the same. If you haven't travled in these parts before realize there is nothing in the yukon but whitehorse. My number is 8325852086 if you have any questions. We went up from calgary though jasper though grand prairie etc. We've heard the cassier highway is a mess right now but if you are taking that I'd like to know how it is.
Really good info. Thanks.
We know we are pushing the season a bit and have prepared for rain. (trash bags everywhere ) Maybe even a little snow (which can be an oxymoron in Alaska.
We have places to stay in ANC and maybe in FBX. But I'm not going to spoil the pool so I won't disclose how many night at each.
The spot and the PLB help with peace of mind for our next of kin, er, loved ones. Fortunately, we are not delivering the dyptheria syrum here and none of this is a "have to". It's a "hope to". I have a family to come back to (who would kill me if I didn't make it back). So aside from the inherrent risks associated with this kind of endeavor, we won't be pushing the envelope much. Between the two of us we have a little common sense. Now if we get separated for any reason.....
And either way. We have swag.
Gassing up tonight (the bike also). Gotta be ready for Mr. Punctual at 0-Dark thirty. He keeps talking about "the crack of dawn". Serious preoccupation with morning I guess.
We'll ride from 0-Dark-Thirty to 0-Dark-Thirsty.

Toss the DEET and the headnet - it's getting too cold for bugs. Replace those items with extra long johns. Cousin who lives 65 miles southwest of Tok said it was 25F a couple of mornings ago. It got clear up to 56 here yesterday. Bugs stay inactive until it hits ~50F.

Y'all better hustle on the way north - winter's coming early this year! Forget the camping until the hard part's over - just keep moving until you get into Alaska.

Don't worry about road conditions. The riders who complain just haven't seen enough bad roads to know any better. They should try the construction around Kluane Lake on an overloaded street bike... at 2:00 AM... with snow coming down so hard that it covers the windshield... and the faceshield... and glasses - so that glasses go into the tankbag and you have to blink away the snowflakes when they hit your eyeballs. It's all about adventure anyway, right?

You'll have a trip to remember. Just be safe, and keep the cameras handy at all times.

That's our plan.
I know you love this stuff but what do you think about this? (not a plan, merely a draft of a conceptualized brainstorm)
1. Orcutt to Grants Pass
2. GP to Abbottsford
3. A'ford to Pr.George or beyond
4. PG to Pink Mtn
5. Pink Mtn to Whitehorse (or close)
6. Next day Change tires, Admin. day.
7. WH to Eagle Plains
8. EP to Dawson (heading south again)
9. Dawson to FBX
10. FBX to Atigun or Paxson (depending on what Mother says we can do)
11. Paxson to Cantwell (or beyond)
12-13 Cantwell to ANC (two days)
14. Admin day and/or ride to Homer and back
15. ANC to Glenallen to Valdez
16. VD to eh, it' gets fuzzy after that.
17. Maybe WH, maybe Destruction Bay, maybe Haines Jct.
18-20. WH change tires back, then backdown the Cassiar.
blah blah blah.
21. Then Eureka to Lost Coast to San Francisco
22. SF to Orcutt.

This was just off the top of my head. But it's within 50% either way. I think Mother will tell us what's possible and how retarded we really are. There may be some wiggle room too. But only tomorrow will tell.
Again, no one said they were all good ideas.

Cameras at the ready!
