One other thing I was wondering... looking through ride reports I see it's expensive to get parts or whatever mailed down there (most counties it looks like). I looked for a thread for something like "I'm flying to Guatemala, can I schlep a brake rotor down for you?" Do you guys know of a thread like that or of any travelers in the area in distress? I'm happy to help out.

I don't know about a tread like this, but I will PM you soon with a few small items I would need

Thanks for the offer

Fuentes is a nice hot springs spot... were you able to get in to the first pool (closest to the waterfall)? I couldn't stand the heat, too hot for me. The second pool was a lot better, plus it had the two cute Ethiopian travelers in it that day!

Hey Guys,

Thanks for all the great info. I have been to Guatemala 4 years ago and am now back with bikes and wife to do it all over again.
My last trip was 3 weeks long with a backpack and I was able to hit Guatemala city - Antigua - Atitlan - Chichicastenengo - Semuc champey and Tikal, probably not in that order :)

We are currently in San Miguel de Allende and are planning on crossing the border into Guate within 3 weeks or so. Would love to get updated info more particularly on:
- border crossing at Ciudad Cuauhtemoc
- good spanish language immersion programs in Antigua
- cool roads to connect Ciudad Cuauhtemoc / Tikal / Antigua

Thanks and looking forward to meeting you guys!

Having a great time in Jaibilito near Panajachel on Lake Atitlan. Took an amazing dirt road all the way West from Rio Dulce. Awesome mountain twisty roads with great views.

My old stomping grounds... tell Jose, Frenchy, and the girls that Chris says hello! And if you want some good off the beaten path riding, check out the dirt river tour, loads of fun!

I am a solo canadian rolling on a super ten. Gonna need new tires when I get into guatemala any insight on where I might find something in stock or will it be special order?
I am leaving from the yucatan in sunday and heading down into belize for a couple days before guatemala. Anyone in the area riding around?

tires

I am not hugely picky on tires and always love the input of the locals as they know what I am getting myself into better then I do. I am heading south to panama from guatemala and to thus point I have just been on the stock battle wings and they have been a good tire as I knew I'd only be on paved roads for the most part. But I also know luxury is over and its time to switch to a set of real dual sports.

So I'm open to suggestions and am going to largely deciding based on whats available.
