Two different peeople. CrazyCarl lives in Virginia and moved back to the US from China one year ago. Lu Fei (Lu is family/last name, Fei is given/first name) lives in Beijing and has never been to the US before.

With all the nut jobs around here it's bound to be at least interesting!

So what is the customary form of address? Do we call him Lei or Lu?

Previous email discussions with him settled on Lu.

His own route

If he decides to go his own way, I have an open invite for ADVers in Boulder Utah September 16-23 -see Rocky Mountain Regional postings. He'd be welcome and I'd put him up.
It would be something for him to write home about. They don't have terrain like this in China.

Sounds like he would like to see some of the western parks. Maybe my dates would work out well.

What do you think Louis-CN???

"Lu", the family name, works just fine but in China folks would probably call him "Lu Fei". Generally, if a person only has a single character first name in China, they will be called both family and first. If they have a two character first name, then they can be called both first name characters.

For example, my name in China is "Wang Fei Shi". Wang (King) is the family name and FeiShi (FlyingStone) would be the first name. Folks would call me "FeiShi" or "Wang FeiShi" but NOT "Wang" (to avoid confusion) or "Fei" unless it was a nick name like "Fei Fei".

Again, these are only general rules and, when traveling, people will usually like to be called whatever name works.

Dear Rider Friends,

Greetings from Beijing to you all!

I'm so happy that I had the chance to visite the Dreamed Land of America!

Thanks to Mr.Glen, GT, Pete, Shwan, CrazyCarl and all the other friends helping me with all the problems during the last 6 months.

I have just finished some reading about touring in USA; I can’t wait to explore this great country with my own eyes. And I’m so excited that my first visit to this dreamed land will be on two wheels!

There are so many famous places to visit: The big Cities Los Angeles, San Francisco, Night sight of Las Vegas, Seattle, Salt lake city……Hollywood, Route 66, Pacific Ocean beach, I saw then many many times in movies, now I’m going to see it by myself, what’s more, I will ride there!

And the National parks of the famous YELLOW STONE, Yosemite, Arches park, Grand canyon, Death Valley, Zino park, Wow~~ I hope we have enough time to see them all.

It seems there are many calm twilights, breathtaking sunsets, mountains, forests, sea sides waiting.

Thanks for the rider exchange plan! Or else I don't think I woul have this chance at least, NOW. And now all my Chinese riders are more than expecting my trip and later the riding report on line. It's their tour on line to get to know about the America too.

We have a saying among the Chinese Riders "Tian Xia Che You Shi Yi Jia", that means, we riders all over the world is a big family. Yes, definitely ture.

I' looking forward to meet you soon and enjoy all the riding!

A big thanks to the above contributors and just a note from a previous
treasurer. The couple of grand we had left over from Shustrik's ride will
get Lu a round trip air line ticket and a good start on his journey.

Ideally, we need the same amount left over for the next rider. Additionally,
an emergency reserve is needed, as we have seen in the past, for repairs
to loaner bikes and shipment of those bikes when necessary.

Insurance costs and motorcycle consumables such as tires aren't cheap either.

So, we have a very good start on funding Lu's ride but we really need to
keep the coffers filled adequately to complete this ride and have enough
left over to start the next ride.

If we hadn't had the balance from last year we would not have been able to
take advantage of good airfares just before the high season prices hit. Not
having the ready cash would have cost, at the very minimum, another $500.

Here's my $100 to back up my mouth.
