Short Notice Aug 16 NW DFW off road practice Rocky Ridge
Hey guys, my buddy Chris and I are going to Rocky Ridge north west of DFW on this Sunday (Aug 16). Anyone who wants to bring out their adventure/dual sport/dirt bike can meet up with us on the way (Riding out of Grapevine around 7:30 am) or meet us there (~9am).
It's going to be hot on Sunday bring lots of water. This is a private ranch so it will be $15 each for all day riding. Coordinates are: lat: 33.4190 lng: -97.363 I will be riding my F800GS and Chris will have his KTM 640 Adventure. While there is a good chance we will be the only peeps NOT trailering their bikes to the site, there is tons of stuff to do for all skill levels (I'm kinda a noob off road so I will be practicing on the trails and maybe a bit of single track). |

Oooh, I'm interested. Still getting used to the new ride, and the back tire is a little... okay a good bit worn... But yeah, I could definitely use some work.
I'll have to recheck money situation on saturday after all the bills are paid. Pay onsite?

Worn tires are better than none!
Hey Paco, you are welcome to join us (yeah, pay on site, sign the waiver, the usual gig, at least they let us back if we go into town for lunch). I bet I have you beat on the rear tire wear!! I have about 2 mm until I am on my wear bars on my rear Metzler Karoo Traveler, should be fine for one day (new tires next Tuesday woot). ...I am riding my SV to work to try to save the tires lol.
here is a pic from last Sunday out at Rocky Ridge and one I just took of my tire in the garage. If I find a shop in the metroplex with a replacement tire tomorrow or sat might go for it... ![]() Sorry I noticed I shot the floor really well but you get the idea.

Would love to, but gotta spend time finishing up the bike Sunday for Colorado.
Byron (iphorde) and I are heading out to Marshall Creek tomorrow (Saturday) morning to put a few miles in. It's only getting up to 94° tomorrow. I may bring a sweater just in case.

Also prepping for CO departure here.
BMW of Ft. Worth and Cycle Gear Bedford have been known to keep a TKC in stock at times.

If I get a chance to put a new tube in my rear tire tomorrow I'm there. I have an '09 KLX and I'll try and go easy for ya in the rough stuff. Just kidding, there isn't any rough stuff out there.
edit: I'm going to change that damn tube one way or another. c_m_shooter screwed with this post 08-14-2009 at 03:07 PM |

If you know where to look there are about 4 spots out there that are worthy of the effort.

I caught Red Leader at the BMW store today and he is gonna go with his 1200GS. Should be fun with all these big bikes.
So far Paco, child, Red Leader and I will be leaving my place around 7:30 and c_m_shooter will meet us out there. If anyone else wants to go PM me if you want to ride up with us in the morning or just meet us out there Oh yeah, and I did get a new rear tire so I will have no excuses in the sandy stuff. |

Dude! Red Leader on his 1200GS is awesome! That was some really tough trails and hill climbs conquered without knobbies! Here are the guys who went. Red Leader (1200GS) followed us everywhere with the 1200, awesome: ![]() c_m_shooter (KLX), led us down (and up) some challenging trails, helping us find ways to improve our skills: ![]() Paco (KLR), eager to ride but had to ride home with no rear brake after the KLR decided to take a nap (sorry no pics of the event...): ![]() The relatively early end to the KLR rider's day :![]() child (640 adventure): ![]() me (800GS): ![]() the group halfway through the rock garden trails (child's pic):

Hey, sorry we did not meet up with you guys later. After our break, we headed off your direction, but I dropped my bike at the top of the hill climb over by the lake, the brake lever hit a rock and busted at the base - ended the day for me.
