8.7k tour of the Maritimes
Is it a good idea to take a scooter that already has 170k on it as far as you can go on the pavement northeastward? Well, Blue Beluga is the only ride I got, so damn the torpedoes!
Result: 4 weeks of BIG fun, the middle 2 of em with my 1st mate Mary. She was with me from Pittsburgh PA to St John's NL. Mostly ~50s-80s mild weather, no incidents, no worries! Roads were a bit ruff here & there but nothing too gnarly. route in Canada was sorta kinda http://tinyurl.com/njrjra here's a sampling of pix made with our cheepo $45 pink camera... COG rally at Fontana NC, home of the Gap, Cherohala, 28, etc. Never mind the goofball on the R Helvetia WV, US219 rocks! sunset near Bennington VT hostel Bar Harbor ME layover day fab lunch spot in Acadia NP Jasper Beach ME with Acadian Rider in Moncton NB Confederation Bridge to PEI 1 of many al fresco snack stops, this one in NS chillin on the Sunshine Trail NS "World Famous", eh? Celtic College, NS where Cabot landed in NS Meat Cove NS happy riders after spotting whales, Meat Cove NS welcome...to 50kt gusts. Blimey! on the way to Trout River need lotsa firewood here bergs ahoy!!! Our 1st sighting ever, St Anthony NL obligatory lighthouse shot l'anse aux Meadows, fascinating ~1000AD Viking settlement prolly shoulda lost the Frog Togs & fanny pack, dontcha think? only the foundations are left departing the ferry in Labrador end of the pavement a biggun! creepy cold fog was usually close at hand Western Brook Pond more WBP gotta hike Paulie & friend made it, whew! a strange part of the trail Terra Nova NP, just before spotting a huge black bear Cape Spear, easternmost point in N America after Mary flew home - Cape St Mary's! 27 bazillion squawkin gannets fun run on the great Route 100 an ackshual Newfoundland ready for a 15 hr cruz back to NS Halifax NS damp Peggy's Cove (route 333: schweet!) US1 bridge in ME random roadside Conc convention in ME ...and there you have it! Great trip and ride report. Brings back wonderful memories of our trip from last summer, almost identical route it seems. Wish we had climbed to the top of Gros Morne.
