Scenic ride near Raleigh?

I was thinking of heading north or northwest. I want to take the gf on a nice scenic Sunday ride. Dirt or gravel roads are fine, but nothing more than that.

Thanks.

Not sure why my signature isn't showing up. I have an 07 DL650. Maybe within an hour radius.

Yeah, I figured there wouldn't be many options. I just wanted to get some practice in for a possible cross country trip next year.

Between Sandord and Carthage there are a few nice gravel roads, and scenery.

Note some of the locations in this old ride report:

Dirt roads

Aren't any

Cass Holt turns to dirt/gravel going south and there are a couple of roads off of that to the right before it turns paved again. Power lines, but difficult for a DL if wet. If you are "creative" when you get to the end of one of them, there is a bunch beyond the iron curtains. I would take someone to help you lift the DL back up onto its wheels.

Beware. Not supposed to be in there. Sunday is best. I wouldn't know. Never been there. Rumors.

If you just stick to the short gravel sections and do loops, it will at least be practice and close by.

I'd go to the mtns.
