looking for rides in 2010

live in HK and have a month or so to take my GSA1200 somewhere exciting in 2010. China still acts closed so wondering if anyone can recommend any one month rides in nearby countries (that allow carnets to import/export your own bike).

Come to India or go to Mongolia.

Nepal and India are good choices

I run tours in Nepal which for some reason is not as popular as India if you have about a month then your 2 choices would be Northern India and Nepal and possibly even Banglash you get to visit 3 countries

Otherwise somewhere like Goa ride south to Kerrala and even Sri Lanka, as in other posts in this section bringing your bike may not be worth it.

You should be able to pick up an 500cc Enfield for about 300 to 400 GBP and sell it before you leave or hire one for about 10-15 GBP per day in India. If it breaks you can get it fixed anywhere if you have a problem with your bike it would have to go to a main dealer in one of the large cities, and then theres the customs and crossings it can be done but is it worth the hassle?

It is now possible for HK licensed motorcycle riders (and car drivers) to acquire a PRC driving license. Info on such is on the useful HKGgov website. Another obstacle removed to gain access to China's roads...

I hope, in the not too distant future, to ride the Silk Route or similar before me or my bike fails to start. DV

In the meantime, you could always sign up to the budding HK ADV Riders Group and its proposed Sunday ride out (see thread(s) below...
