No you don't. Your knowledge of the history of the area and your even handed treatment of those who are a part of that history is impressive and I look forward to your posts. I especially enjoy following the related videos on your youtube segments.

Great pictures and history!

Reading the historical marker I was reminded of a quote in a book titled "West of Wichita" that, as a Kansas boy, I always appreciated.

It read, "To understand Kansas and the people who live there you must know that Coronado had strangled the guide that led him there."

Agree. I looked at it and immediately started thinking about taking a plains ride. It's been a few years.

I love that quote, Miners, book West of Wichita ia a really great read in understanding the Kansas portion of the Great Plains.

These small towns on the high plains slip further and further towards being no more.

About the only business left open in many of these small western Kansas towns is the Co-op, as they once boomed and swelled with people and commerce, they now slowly shrivel and die. As the Plains Tribes time came and went, now the last generation of folks who called these prairies home after the Indians, watch as their time slowly dwindles to an end. I wonder some times if the idea of a Buffalo Commons on the Great Plains, is possible?

Sod Buster-- Clearly evident why you have a 'Location' and 'Home' listed in your info. You DO love your Plains doncha?!? THANKS for sharing your photos and the history as you have.
Hope someday your location and home are the same!

I was still living and working on our family's ranch and farming operation south of Dodge City when in the late 1980's Popper first proposed the idea of a "Buffalo Commons." At the time we were incensed at the idea as we saw it as a complete misunderstanding of the Great Plains and of us as a people.

20 years later a person has to wonder.
