Nice to see peeps helping out with all the planning

now the only thing I can add is don't expect a cell phone to work so if folks are coming at different times we need good plans for meeting. I would like to ride down on Fri nite so Saturday is a full day in the area - let me know if you are interested too so we can make plans, but we will need a meeting spot for folks coming down on Saturday.

Hmmm, what time on Saturday? It would be pretty easy to plan on being at a tarmac entrance some time on Saturday morning for a rendezvous. Choices:

N-F Road and the SCRR which is probably the best place for folks trying to zip into the area (remember to have your ID/proof of insurance to cross Fort Hunter-Liggett).

H1 and N-F Road south of Lucia

H1 and Plasket Ridge Road just South of Gorda

H1 and Los Burros Rd South of Plasket Ridge Rd

South of there we are out of the forest and out of access I believe.

Another option for meeting on Saturday morning
down there would be at Gorda - just south of Los Burros/
HWY1.

There's a store/restaurant and most important - gas
available there. Probably the only option to top off before
getting up into the hills.

The google map has Gorda's location listed incorrectly.

Forgive me if I am ignorant but can someone post a map of where the campsite is exactly? I tried following the directions from Scottmac's post #15 and found that spot but wasn't sure if that was the campsite noted.

I like the idea of meeting at a place for gas/food. Allows for fill-up and a bit larger window for meeting times. Guessing the ride up to the campsite is a "must have daylight" so how late in the afternoon/evening is possible?

Then an early morning meeting at one of the entrances might be good.

Maybe I need to re-read the thread again but let's post a map of the site and from there pick meeting spots.

Just sayn'

Oh and assuming I take Friday off I can make it there Friday afternoon.

Looks like a bit of a drive from here - 372 miles
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...76&ie=UTF8&z=7

And I'd possibly be swinging through San Jo' to meet up with Gester-Steve on the way...

Can you go Friday or is it Sat AM for ya??

This is what I get with google maps.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sour...1,0.03768&z=15

If you follow Los Burros Rd. up from HWY 1 you'll come to the 4-way
crossroads you see here in the map. The trail marked Ft. Hunter Ligget
that dead ends back towards the coast is the road you want - the
campsite is at the very end overlooking HWY1.

You can see it much clearer using Google Earth.

Hope this helps.

Yes. Definitely helps. So this is the area we are looking at riding around. Marker B is the campsite or close to it:

I wasn't sure lookign at the maps if it was that one where B is or the fork further up shown here. On the satelite image I think I can see where the camp site is....

That is it!

You can see the campsite right near B in that link.

It's a pretty good dirt road along that ridge with a few
steep sections. My friend rode out there once on his KTM
690 and said a guy was already camped there who had
made it in on a Harley Davidson.

If we're lucky some firewood may be stacked there already.
If not, we can ride down and get bundles of six nicely seasoned
logs for $5 a bundle at Plaskett Creek USFS campground.

I'm hoping to leave here around noon on Friday and heading
down.

Crap!

I just did a check on the USFS Los Padres National
forest website.

http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/lospadres/ab...-restrictions/

It looks like camp fires are only being allowed in Monterey
County in established campgrounds. Valid fire permits are
not an exception.

I'll keep an eye on this page and hopefully this changes
in the next couple of weeks.

I wonder when the official fire season ends?

"This Order is effective from August 5, 2009, through the end of the official 2009 fire season."

Probably when it starts raining, which has already happened in the Bay Area, so probably a bit more rain... I already called; who's gonna call about this?

There still might be a campfire solution.

It looks like the site is outside of Los Padres/USFS
juristiction according to their published TOPO maps.

By a long way.

I've seen stacks of firewood stocked up there over
the years.

Ponderosa and Nacimiento Campgrounds are on the campfire allowed list. This time of year you'll have the campground mostly to yourself because everyone wants to camp on the coast. Both of these campgrounds are right along Nacimiento/Fergeson Road. The night time temps will be cooler than the coast this time of year.

Hey Scott we ned to ride again. I saw Joel on Friday, we were both out riding and I flagged him down.

I'm trying to get some people to go down there next weekend if anybody's interested...

http://www.southbayriders.com/forums...ad.php?t=84929

I'm doing it as a day ride and my route is a long one, SCRR is only the begining. After that it's through Hunter Ligget, then through Williams Hill, cross 101 and back up 25. It'll be a long ride, but if your interested I can promise it'll be fun with a lot of dirt.

I'm not sure if I can make your ride, as I've got a bunch of overnighters planned already for the next few months, but if I can I'd be stoked to ride with some new people.

Cheers!

When 3" of rain hits the ground in that area.
That's what the rangers have said on numerous occasions.
Called numerous times over the years hoping for a variation in the answer.
