So it seems somebody has been to the ear of the pig? In other news I've been at the spanners.
  • The rear engine mount bolt got loosened so that I could pad out the exhaust brackets with an off-cut of exhaust wrap. The claps are 40mm, the downpipes are s/s aftermarkets with their mouths stretched to 40, but their main runs @ 38mm. Thus the pipes are not gripped, and because there are no end cans (mounted to the frame, giving a fixed rear point) the downpipes can shift forward from the heads by 3/4 of a centimetre when the throttle is blipped. Variable length exhausts are of interest, as are variable inlet tracts, but loose is something else.
  • I've been washing my clothes 3 times a day and I may just about have broken the back of the fish thing. I am not looking towards wearing them though, as body heat may unfortunately bring it all out again. I've tried to warn people that they sit next to me @ their peril.
  • I cut another mini stud for the left rocker cover, as I had a selection of threaded rod available, and popped off the cover to insert the replacement. In the process the thread on the centre bigger stud finally gave up the ghost, so I came back up 3 floors to sift thru the 'magic bucket of bolts & parts all tipped together' to find a new one I had. I couldn't find it, but then I have no idea where anything is in my boxed up shed, which is the least I deserve. I cut a replacement from a larger threaded rod & very carefully set about inserting it into the head, as I could really do without a fucked thread just there. All went well, and even ripping the gasket by mistake didn't ruin the job. I won't really know until it's had a good run but it all seems good for now.
  • I then set about thinking how I was going to repair the tail light/plate/mudfenderguard mount as mentioned before. I think sometimes it's really best to sit around a bit and ponder, as the early ideas I came up with would never have worked, and it took me some time to fashion a self springing flexible mount from a flat strip of aluminium. I really can't visualise things internally, nada, so working this stuff out takes a bit of a while. That's what happens for we visualexic.
  • Not being in possession of my own island, I have to stop these things at a reasonable time, but I was able to get it all on & tight before the proles started heckling. Just a couple of little bits to finish off & the jobs done.
