Wow.
Just.... wow.

Aside from the obviously amazing nature of the trip and photos you have also managed to in just a few posts to create a list of all-time Ride Report great lines:

The Good, the Bad, and the Beautiful

The good, I want to reflect what another commenter said, I think your pictures belong in National G. I would sincerely encourage you to pursue your dream.

The bad, your report is not long enough!! I could have kept reading for another couple of months or longer. Please keep us informed even though you are off your bike.

The beautiful, all of your pictures. I had to go to your smugmug account and go through all of your pictures. The faces that you captured are absolutely amazing and all of your pictures have such feeling. When I looked at the picture of the little boy crawling through the hot peppers, that was in the ride report, I didn't notice that he was bare-assed. It was only when I was looking at them on Smugmug that I realize it. I can't imagine how that must feel.

Thank for a great report.

Great RR. The only thing more difficult than imagining me not doing a ride like that some day is having to come back to the real world (which I actually do like).

Just for grins--mind telling us bike and all what replicating this trip in $$$ would cost?

Finace Report

Thanks so much for the kind comments and questions.

I never kept track of my spending but I will give a finance report a shot.

Bike
125cc Used DFMCO 2005? - 1600rmb ($234)

Inital Repairs done the month I played with bike before departing
(Sorry I am not too good on the tech terms yet)
New engine lower, piston and seals 300RMB ($43)
New Clutch assembly 60RMB ($9)
Rear rim and front "safty" bar 100RMB ($14)
Mirrors x 4 (HEY! I was learning!) 30RMB ($4.5)
Igniton 20RMB ($3)
Exhast 80RMB ($12)
Blinkers 25RMB ($4)
Rear Gear box 40RMB ($6)

During the course of the trip my spending varied greatly by location. I spent much much more in tourist areas where cheese and a good pub were available. Looking at my bank account though I averaged about 150RMB/Day ($22) including gas with some days costing nothing but gas because of the great locals. Near the end of the trip I became a sucker for a hot shower, comfy bed and sit toilets nearly every day and spent up to 150RMB on lodging alone.

I was fortunate also to save on countless meals, motorbike repairs and lodging by befriending the locals.

The final cost with bike was around $2300 for the 70 or so days but could of been done at half that price if I stayed away from cheese(Im from WI and have been living in Germany too long), beer and clean rooms

awesome RR!

I love these far out journeys on small bikes!

Having worked in the Tien Chin mountain/Taklamakan desert area of Xinjian Province (Urumqi, Korla, Luntai) several years ago, your ride report brought back memories.

You achieved what I dreamed of doing.

Thanks for the comments. I am ecstatic to be able to show you all my trip and for your comments. I am in Gilgit Pakistan now and am realllly missing the bike. The landscape is breathtaking and the locals are making me feel at home everywhere I go. I ditched the jeans am rocking the traditional Pakistani long shirt, baggy pants and a camel wool hat. We need a advbus forum now so I can continue...
