Thumb Cyprus - Greece - Italy - Austria Alps Included

Hi all,

just finished my ride from Cyprus to Greece - Italy - Austria and the Alps Italian and Austria were Included and we did not get a drop of rain all 5 days we were with my wife in the Alps! Yes, it was only my wife the bike and me.

Peek of the map here

As usual the trip started by sending the bike from Cyprus to Greece.
The bike at the Limassol port in Cyprus waiting to be loaded after all the paperwork and custom clearance.

We arrived in Greece and it seems that it was a bus day. Starting with a car in Limassol, then a bus to the Larnaca airport, bus to the plane, plane to Greece, bus to the check in and bus to Athens, finally metro to the hotel for a little relaxing before the trip the next day.

Waiting for some friends to arrive later and some food, the food arrived but the "friends" never did.

Some photos from Athens, Greece .... tomorrow the trip starts and will get better.

Using subways, trains and taxis we arrived at the port and after some paperwork and a lot of walking we managed to get our bike.

We left the port around 10.45am and off we went to Patra but as usual something had to go wrong and the GPS hanged .... who needs it when you have maps and signs to follow.

Our single stop after that crazy driving and dangerous road! One going lane and one coming road with no railings in the middle that was transformed by the drivers to a double lane.

We took the road from Ancona towards Firence going by Bologna. At one point the lanes i could see split to 6 for me and 3 opposite, well, i kept the middle one and came out ok.

On the way to Firence

A photo of Firence while we where there as the next day we made a mistake ..... we forgot our cameras in the hotel and the rest is history.

We took the lovely roads of Kianti going through the villages and those lovely roads.

At some point we went off-road driving to arrive in a lovely place.

13-08-09 Bardolino and Lago D' Carta Italy.

We left the lovely town of Firence and went to another place in Bardolino, Lago D' Carta.

Different from the other towns as we were next to a big lake, something like a small sea.

We looked for a specific hotel but it was fully booked so we went accross the road and found a room to rent for the night (holiday you see also for the Italians and all was fully booked), the hotel? name is Marina and it is a 2 star with prices of a 4 star and wanted to get paid before we even checked out and before the breakfast, would not suggest it to anyone. The bike was in a better place than what we were but it was only for a night so this is also in the past.

A view from the road when going to the wine museum.

We visited the local wine museum with no entrance but you buy an over priced bottle of wine.

Down near the lake and where all the shops are, dont miss the ice cream, the best i ever tasted!

Lets continue then ...

Italian Alps Dolomites and Misourina.

It rained the previous night but after the sun was up all was ok apart from my wifes intercom that failed us. We sort of fixed that at a later stage but then the one head phone failed on my helmet.

The choice is yours, Italian Alps or Austrian?

before we hit the Alps ...

Passed Cortina D'Ampezo and went to Misurina

The hotel we stayed at

We enjoyed the Italian Alps and Dolomites but time to hit the road and go to Austria Helingblut - Grobglockner

We got to the tallest pass in Grobglockner 2500m.

I have never seen so many bikes going up and down in the same day as it was a holiday also in Italy and a weekend. I came accross bikes and bikers with the initial of A, I, D, GB, NL, GR and mine CY.

The pension house we spent a couple of nights in Helinblut.

more to come ...
