While there has been much debate about this bike being a DR dressed up in Dakar clothing I would have to say this is a substantial bike, its big. All it needs is pannier frames and a decent bash plate to go touring. Having said that I think 14K is still a bit expensive but not excessivley so, time will tell how well our market recieves this bike. Cheers OBR

Yeah, colour scheme sucks, but upgrading the suspension is exactly what I was looking at doing. But the purchase price here in Oz being what it is makes it somewhat unrealistic, be better to wait until the used units start appearing on the market, they will be there within a year. This one is not the only one to be upgraded, there is a cool black one with gold rims.

G'day fella's
I' don't have a specific brand of bike that i feel loyal to BUT.....I have been holding off buying a bike because i have been waiting for this tenere and done alot of reading up from the euro fella's that have been putting miles on them. I have done alot of pro's and cons with other bike options "DR" "KLR" "KTM" "BMW" In the end i put a deposite down on the tenere for 14K ride away. I agree it still should be a bit cheaper, my hope price was: "13K ride away" but i was happy with the deal i made in the end. The money i was going to have to spend on a DR after you buy it was going to put it up to about 10k+ (suspension, exhaust, bash plate,.....blah blah) and then its still carby fed, still didn't have a screen...etc. I don't want to buy a new bike without EFI as more and more bikes are going EFI i think its time to move on from carby's The KLR well in "my opinion" its just f@#$ing ugly as hat full of A holes and still carby fed. KTM....well I'm one redneck that's not addicted to shinny shit, i won't be trying to win any races and in "my opinion" KTM's are for wanna be's.....mostly! BMW......well so many reasons why.... like cost, but 2 of the main reasons is F@#$ing Ewen and Charlie. So as i'll be keeping the WR for the fun days out in the bush, the tenere is going to be great for doing some big trips on and comute to and from work, its a allrounder, not great any one thing! but good at alot of things! and that's what i was looking for in this sort of bike. However i still feel that i could get the tenere up many of the tracks that i go on the WR...it just won't be as quick. The tenere is for touring/exploring not time trials. Cheers to all

14 K ride away, ain't to bad. But i'll wait and see what you guy's reckon after 12 months. By then they might be 13k, but i'd doubt it. Even a WR 450 is pushing 13 K these days, what happened to the Global melt down, cheap bikes no where to be seen, in Aus.

never understood the whole 'but you can get a similar thing for less' argument. If your in a restaurant and you really want the steak your not going to go for the pasta because it's just as nutritional but a few dollars cheaper, your going to get what you want. Same goes for bikes, the Tenere has a very established name throughout the years and previous tenere's and xt600's have proven very reliable over the years. If I was in the market for a dual sport it would be a toss up for me over the tenere and the f800, and I reckon the tenere would win in my mind.
