CDR: Photos and a Few Recommendations

For anyone familiar with my other ride reports, you know I've always tried to add to the existing knowledge base of interesting adventure routes, while at the same time trying convey a sense of what makes these rides so great.

Thanks to the hard work and immense effort from great ADV contributors such as BigDog, Countdown, and many, many others, I feel like there is already a lot of good information out there regarding the Continental Divide Ride.

So instead, for this ride report I thought I'd just share some of my favorite photos that I took from my recently completed north to south ride on the CDR. I also thought I might share a few recommendations for businesses and/or services along the route that I felt were especially good or "ADV friendly".

I hope you enjoy the photos and if anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask. -Neil

New tires installed at Penco Powersports in Kalispell. The set of tires that I pre-ordered from the parts department were ready and waiting for me, and their service department had me in and out in less than an hour and a half. (I did have a tenative appointment already)

Beautiful Colorado

I stopped in Salida and stayed at the Woodland Motel. Salida turned out to have a great little downtown district and the Woodland was a nice, clean, basic place to stay and catch up on some routine maintenance and chores. (I carried some No-Toil cleaner and air filter oil with me)

New Mexico Continued

South of Grants, I substituted the Chain of Craters Back Country Byway for a good portion of paved Hwy 117. I also cut over from Pie Town to stay the night in Quemado at the Largo Motel and Cafe. The motel was surprisingly modern, nice and clean, and the cafe's specialty, a green chile cheeseburger, was excellent.
