I had a nice ride home after work, took a few different roads to get the Irondale tag and then find something suitable for the next tag.

For this one you need to go to the Mall, but not for shopping. You might have to Drive the Parkway in this city to find the tag:

A little history:

Trussville Furnace, Trussville Furnace and Mining Company, Trussville, Jefferson County. One stack, 65 x 16J, built in 1887-9, and first blown in in April, 1889; three Whitwell stoves; fuel, Ala- bama coke; ores, local red and brown hematite; product, foundry pig iron; annual capacity, 40,000 net tons. R. D. Smith, General Manager. Selling agents, Rogers, Brown & Co., Cincinnati and Philadelphia ; Rogers, Brown & Meacham, St. Louis; Rogers, Brown & Merwin, Chicago.

The Trussville Furnace was located at 301 Parkway Drive where Hewitt-Trussville Middle School now rests. The furnace was in operation between 1889-1919 producing foundry pig iron. Of note was the pig iron manufactured here was utilized in the armament efforts during World War I. The furnace would close in the spring of 1919 with it finally being dismantled in 1933. The land where it once stood was then sold in 1935 to the federal government to construct the Cahaba Village.

Cahaba Village (now the Cahaba Homestead Village Historic District). is a planned residential development located on the banks of the Cahaba River north of downtown Trussville (map). It was constructed between 1936 and 1938 by the Resettlement Administration on the site of the original Trussville Furnace. Originally called "Slagheap Village" because of the large slag piles covering the site, Cahaba Village became a distinct and active community during World War II. It was incorporated, along with "Old Trussville" into the City of Trussville in 1947.

Happy Tagging!

Actually I wasn't able to stop in to eat this time, I had prior dinner plans for the evening.

I did have some of their fried green tomatoes when I had lunch there about a month ago

They do have some good food.

Cool2 Next Tag

A liitle dual sport action, less than 1 mile off the road.

Margaret and Acmar mines were a set to behold. The mine sites were massive and mining activity was carried out around the clock. The Central of Georgia built a trunk line from Leeds to Acmar and eventually to Margaret to transport coal from the mines. The Central of Georgia built a tunnel under Seaboard’s mainline near Acmar in 1905 to reach the mines at Margaret. Although the tracks are gone, the tunnel is still there and the top of the tunnel is still lined with black residue from the coal powered steam engines.

Start here.....

When you cross the bridge turn right........

Your next tag.........

Go for it! Get wet, you know I did!

I'm taking off early today. I used to live about 2 miles from this tag.

May or may not have time to run by there.
