KLR250 Cam Chain Replacement

My wife has a '93 KLR250 with just over 25K miles on it, and the cam chain is getting pretty loud. The adjuster is all the way out, so I bought a new chain. I got into the LH side of the engine the other night, and discovered that my flywheel puller (for my KLR650) is too large (22mm vs. 18mm for the 250). My question is this: can I replace the cam chain without removing the flywheel? I'm not too cheap to buy another tool, BTW. My wife commutes on this bike daily, and the less time it sits in the garage the less I have to hear about it, if you know what I mean.
Any other things to look for while I'm in there?

Thanks in advance!!
