No offense to the Tuono, because it really is a wicked bike and would rape a Speed Triple on probably any track, but the power figures here are a little misleading. Nearly every dyno I've seen has the Speed Triple and the Tuono within 2-3 rwhp of each other at their peak. And the S3 generally dominates the Tuono in terms of torque.

In terms of seat of the pants feel, I can say that while the Tuono feels motor feels revvier, the S3's lump definitely feels stronger and is a much more fun motor, IMHO. It's really one of the best motors I've ever experienced.

I chose the S3 because of looks, that great big old batch of honk the motor has down low, price, parts and dealer support in my area.

All things being equal with parts, price and dealer support I could be convinced to buy either one. I do love me some triple wail with the Arrow low pipe though and the ten minute chain adjustments, from clean hands to clean hands, don't hurt my feelings either.

I was in a similar situation. I rode both, didn't like the looks of the Triple so was going to buy a Tiger instead but then I rode the Tuono and the decision was made. It felt better at high speeds and it sorts out really well with some tweaks . I imagine the S3 does as well but the Tuono is tits with some quick and inexpensive modifications. It also felt a bit more solid in terms of finish and I preferred it for looks (totally subjective on that account). I will say that the 1050 is one of the smoothest and spirited motors I've ever had the pleasure to ride in recent years. This is a decision where you simply cannot go wrong.

Test ride is the only answer. I am a twin fan in general, but I also loved my Sprint for what that 3 motor brings to the riding experience. My riding friend has owned many bikes, but over the last several years it was a S3 then a Mille then another S3 and now he just bought a new Tuono. The 09 S3 was the other final contender for his new bike. If you can get the service/parts support you need for either bike, for me it would come down to ergonomics as they both have loyal riders for all the right reasons.

Good luck.

Triple wins for me. The Tuono (older ones were a bit more raw) is an awesome bike, but there is just something about the S3 that gets me going. can't really go wrong with either one though. both are great bikes. Which one makes your mouth water? I've ridden both and understand it is a hard choice to make.

well the Speed Triple is a cheaper bike with cheaper components. Fact...not opinion. Maybe putting the price in the equation, the Triple is a good buy. The Tuono is in a different league. You pay for what you get... nothing wrong with that.

Tuono

Ridden the St and enjoyed it ,great bike .
Rode the Tuono and was blown away ,FANTASTIC

There are some great deal on Tuono s on Ebay . Ive seen quite a few good deals around $7000 $8000
I bought a brand new 2007 for $7500 .with a 2 year warranty

Hey for that price you cant get a better deal for a 1000 cc

Check out Ebay and bid your price plus $1 30 sec before bidding closes
GOOD LUCK

Every ride is a good ride on a ST
BUT EVERY RIDE IS TO SHORT ON A TUONO
