Catskill Dual Sport Track Viewer

All of my tracks are now color coded and packed into a MapViewer at this URL

http://www.advCatskills.org/CatskillRides.jar

The jar file is updated regularly, so you will need to download it again to see the updates.

You will need Java, the viewer is a signed jar file that is executable. It supports zoom via the slider or a mouse scroll wheel, dragging with a mouse, and selection of tracks via buttons on the bottom pane. The tracks are color coded red=dirt, blue=scenic, green=two track, black = blacktop. To run the program, download the jar file and open it. It should work on Windows, Macs, and Linux systems. Sorry, no Ios or Android yet.

There are menus to export all tracks, as well as to import your own track to compare.

Excellent! Great job

Edit: Let me rephrase. It's beyond awesome! I was just trying to figure out an adventure route for me and wife from Hancock as I do not ride the Quarry Run anymore. Bingo!

I will be with you Pete.
Are you able to get the .gpx files together?

All the routes on the map are in gpx. You need to export it to your computer and load into GPS. I use Base Camp.

As far as feedback, I don't know what can you do better, I seem to have difficulties in figuring out the total mileage of the routes but I'm a GPS noob

It's possible that some of my gpx segments aren't connecting within the track causing problems on programs that sum the mileage. I will take a look.

Coming soon, the ability to import other gpx tracks for comparison.

I updated the program so the File import gpx menu works so you can compare to another gpx file.

What is the color code key, are the red ones "very difficult" .. or ?

Very cool app. If I may ask, why roll your own app rather than leveraging one of the prebuilt options out there?

black=paved (black for blacktop)
red=maintained dirt (Dirt in the northern Catskill is red)
blue=scenic or twisty (lot's of blue sky or blue water
green=unmaintained dirt, (green for grassy, rocky or muddy most difficult)

There is some subjectivity, I have noticed that I rated the same segment red on one route and green on another route, with the difference being when I rode it.

I rolled my own because I had the pieces on hand from past work projects, most of the work was already done in third party libraries, I am very experienced in Java programming, somewhat of a bigot about other languages and I knew the Java approach would be useful off line and fast enough for 30 tracks and thousands of points.

Coming soon, text descriptions of the different routes.
