Why, is Brighton an Africa Twin free zone?

That's "here" as in "on ADVrider"

Actually, Sussex seems to be a bit of an Africa Twin hot spot!

Can't make that one, but maybe see you at one of the midweek jaunts if you can make it!

Have an Africa Twin question that I could not seem to google up an answer for.
The rectifier went out on my RD07. Because of the high voltage it goes up to in process of dying, it burned out all the lights, cooked the battery, killed the CDI, and the tachometer also now does not work. It will not go above 2000 RPM indicated no matter what the engine is doing. I have replaced all the parts , and now the bike runs fine. Except the tach still does not work. To prevent this from happening again I am putting a voltmeter on all my Twins. Has this anyone on this board had the same experience, and is there some tricky fix for the tach ?? I understand they are pretty pricey. Thanks in advance!!

Decided to put the old Zaga bags from my BMW onto one of my Africa Twins.
Ordered the regular Touratech frames. After carefully looking at I did not like the look of the wider box on the exhaust side. So.........off to the welding shop. Had them cut the exhaust to be in the low position, about one inch below the box. Then had them cut the frame apart, and then bring it in to be the same as the left side. Total cost here in Thailand for the work was about $ 75.

Had the boxes powder coated as well. Now when I smash them up, a little touch up paint, and they look new again. Also the painted surface does not turn your packed gear black like bare aluminium.

A Dyna charge monitor would have given you a heads up in that situation and possibly averted your disaster. Here's a previous post of mine. I have one on my gspd too and swear by them.

Lord, I have seen the light !!!!!!!! I had already ordered two dyna charge indicators just before the rectifier died. Am now putting them on all my Africa Twins. Those CDIs are EXPENSIVE. Great idea though . Otherwise you are motoring down the road happily looking at scenery, next moment you are by the side of the road in the middle of nowhere with a dead bike. Easy call to put one one.
