My best friend is dead

If anyone knows any detail of the accident on I-84 near the OR/ID border, I would really like to know more.

What I do know is my best friend died instantly when he and his GS struck a guard rail at about 1800 yesterday.

RIP Brother

Updated 9-16-2009
Eric was riding an R1100GS. He also rode HD, Buell, R60/2, Husaburg I might be forgetting something.

What happened? This pretty much sums it up.

From the Idaho Statesman

"Eric Shink, 40, of Kennewick, Wash., was killed Monday evening after he drove his motorcycle into a guardrail on Interstate 84. Shink was driving a motorcycle eastbound on I-84 near the Idaho/Oregon border and attempting to get on the off-ramp at milepost 3 when he lost control on a curve and drove into the guardrail, according to ISP reports. The force of the impact threw Shink from the motorcycle, according to ISP reports. Shink, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. ISP investigators say they suspect alcohol and excessive speed could be contributing factors to the crash."

His service will be on Monday Sept. 21 in Kennewick, WA

RIP Brother Shink you are missed

Our last big ride through OR, into CA and back up the coast.

My sympathies to you Rusty, I feel your pain. 387 days later and I can almost get through a day without thinking about my best friend's death.

Talk to people and let your grief out.

So sorry.

I've lost three. After the anger and the grief, you find that best friends never go away. Ever. They are always with you. Small consolation now.

Sorry for your loose.

Remember, as long as he is still in your mind, a small part of him is still here.

Never let that go.

Authorities also responded to motorcycle crash near the Idaho, Oregon border. They say Eric Shink, 40, of Kennewick, Wash., was headed eastbound on Interstate 84 when he struck a guard rail and was ejected from his motorcycle.

Shink, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene. Alcohol and speed are believed to have been factors in the crash.

I hope this is a case of bad reporting.

RIP Captain Shink.

A great loss.

I met Eric at the beginning of this year through the VW club...He was a mad man fabricator and quickly became a good friend! He would come over and just start ripping into my bus without delay...Great skills.

You're the best Eric.
